EIH shares fell 6% to ₹307 in Friday's trading session following the announcement of mixed Q1 FY27 results, as reported by Live Mint. The hospitality company delivered exceptional year-on-year growth but faced sequential challenges that disappointed investors. Consolidated net profit jumped more than threefold to ₹120.3 crore from ₹36.9 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, aided by a favourable base, but declined 52% quarter-on-quarter from ₹249.1 crore. This mixed performance pattern reflects the company's strong long-term growth trajectory offset by seasonal softness and sequential profitability pressures.
The company's revenue from operations increased 14.5% year-on-year to ₹657 crore in Q1 FY27, up from ₹574 crore in the year-ago quarter, as reported by Live Mint. However, revenue fell 26.6% quarter-on-quarter from ₹895 crore as seasonal softness weighed on performance. This sequential decline indicates typical seasonal patterns in the hospitality industry, with summer months traditionally showing stronger demand compared to winter quarters. The revenue growth demonstrates steady business expansion and improved demand for the company's hotel and resort services under the Oberoi and Trident brands.
EBITDA increased 6% year-on-year to ₹167 crore from ₹160 crore in Q1 FY26, according to Live Mint reports. However, EBITDA margin improved to 25.4% during the quarter, falling 300 basis points year-on-year but declining sharply by 1200 basis points sequentially from 37.4% in the previous quarter. The margin compression reflects the company's focus on volume growth over margin expansion during the quarter, with the sequential decline likely attributed to seasonal factors affecting operational efficiency.
Commenting on the results, Arjun Oberoi, executive chairman of EIH Limited, stated that "India is emerging as one of the world's most dynamic travel and tourism markets, presenting a transformational opportunity for our industry." As reported by Live Mint, the company has strengthened its development pipeline by signing management agreements for six new luxury hotels. These include The Oberoi, Kabini (60-key luxury wildlife resort), The Oberoi, Hampi (60-key luxury resort near UNESCO World Heritage Site), and The Oberoi, Coorg (100-key luxury resort). The expansion also includes international properties like The Oberoi Cairo (147-key luxury hotel) and domestic hotels Trident, Amritsar (150-key) and Trident, Pavana (150-key leisure hotel near Mumbai). These additions support the company's ambition to significantly expand its portfolio by 2030 while strengthening its ability to capitalize on long-term growth opportunities across both domestic and international markets.
