Shares of Data Patterns (India) Ltd. extended gains for a second straight session on Wednesday, July 22, rising 12% to ₹4,769 and taking their two-day advance to about 20%, after the defence electronics company emerged as the lowest bidder for a ₹1,300 crore project from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL). According to the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal, Data Patterns has received the Award of Contract (AOC) for the supply of electronic warfare equipment, including Buffer Amplifier and Built-In Test Equipment Modules, for HAL. The order is valued at around ₹1,300 crore and represents complex defence electronic components used in military aircrafts. The stock demonstrated strong market interest with heavy volume trading, with average trading volume jumping seven-fold as a combined 5.45 million equity shares changed hands on the NSE and BSE.
The HAL order represents a significant milestone for Data Patterns, as it exceeds the company's entire FY26 order inflows of ₹1,100 crore and is also larger than the company's year-end order book of ₹926 crore. As reported by CNBC TV18, the order is scheduled to be executed within 180 days of the award. During its March-quarter earnings call, management had indicated that the company is set to receive one large single-vendor order in 2-3 months and that orders worth ₹1,150 crore are in negotiation stages and are expected to be received this year. With these contracts once placed, the company's order book will increase significantly to ₹3,200 crore (3.5x FY26 revenue), providing strong revenue visibility. The management remains confident of 20-25% annual revenue growth while maintaining a healthy margin profile.
Following its FY26 results, Data Patterns had guided for an order pipeline of ₹2,000-4,000 crore over the next 24 months. The company expects to deliver 20-25% revenue growth over the next two to three years, while maintaining EBITDA margins of 35-40% in FY27 and remaining net debt-free. According to CNBC TV18, JM Financial maintained its 'Add' rating on the stock with a target price of ₹4,080, noting that while the stock is trading at 54 times its estimated earnings for FY28, the order has the potential to drive earnings upgrades once it is formally materialised. Analysts at JM Financial Institutional Securities view this as highly significant as the potential order size exceeds Data Patterns' total FY26 order inflows of ₹1,100 crore and surpasses its FY26-end order book of ₹926 crore.
Shares of Data Patterns are trading 11.6% higher at ₹4,725.95 on Wednesday, significantly outperforming the broader market where the BSE Sensex was down 1% at 76,704. The strong performance reflects investor confidence in the company's ability to execute this major defence contract and capitalise on the growing demand for electronic warfare equipment. The development comes at a time when the government's 'Athmanirbhar Bharat' initiative has reached a critical maturity phase, with roughly 75% of the capital acquisition budget reserved for domestic procurement, directly benefiting indigenous players like Data Patterns. A recent study suggests that private defence companies are expected to grow at around 25-35%, outpacing major defence public sector undertakings which are expected to grow less than 20%.
