Data Patterns (India) shares extended their recent decline, falling over 4% intraday on Tuesday, August 24, as part of a 4% weekly drop over the past five trading sessions. According to CNBC TV18, the stock had previously surged 6% to their intraday and 52-week high of ₹5,000 on Friday, August 21, but has since come under pressure. Despite the recent slide, the stock remains in positive territory over the longer term, having surged over 76% year-to-date and more than 79% over the trailing 12 months. The aerospace and defence electronic systems maker's shares had previously closed at ₹4,700.20 and retracted some gains during the session, trading 5% higher at around ₹4,938 during the trading session.
The rally was driven by the announcement of a substantial contract win from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). As per the latest order details, Data Patterns India will supply radar electronics worth ₹585.76 crore to BEL for a total contract size. This contract represents a significant addition to the company's order book and has positively impacted investor sentiment, with the stock hitting its 52-week high on Friday's market session. According to CNBC TV18, the stock price surpassed its previous high of ₹4,955 touched on June 19, 2026, marking a new milestone for the company. The stock had earlier come under pressure after the company reported weaker earnings for the quarter ended June 2026, with shares closing 4% lower the following day.
According to the latest NSE filing, the company's order book status as of July 30, 2026, stood at ₹2,654 crore, including orders received and negotiated. Following the latest contract announcement, the company has secured additional orders amounting to ₹771.08 crore. Of this total, ₹745.93 crore were orders that were already negotiated and yet to be received as per the July 30, 2026 announcement. The remaining ₹25.15 crore represents new orders that have been secured subsequently, including the BEL order that pushed the total to the current level. As per CNBC TV18, a combined 1.5 million equity shares changed hands on the NSE and BSE during the trading session.
Despite the contract win, the company reported subdued performance in Q1 FY27. As reported in NSE filings, Data Patterns posted a 13.5% fall in net profits to ₹22.1 crore in the April to June quarter, compared to ₹25.5 crore in the same period a year earlier. While revenue from operations showed positive growth, rising 16.8% to ₹116 crore from ₹99.3 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, the company's earnings were pressured down by overall surge in expenses. The EBITDA declined 2.2% YoY to ₹314 crore in Q1 FY27, with EBITDA margins declining by over 526 basis points to 27% from 32% in the same period last year. According to CNBC TV18, the stock had earlier come under pressure after the earnings report, with shares closing 4% lower the following day.
The company's management expressed confidence in the defence sector outlook, citing a healthy pipeline of opportunities and larger-value complete system contracts. According to CNBC TV18, the management highlighted that the current order book position provides healthy revenue visibility, with the company's foray into counter-drone business and export initiatives continuing to gain traction. The management remains confident of achieving 20% to 25% revenue growth while maintaining EBITDA margins in the 35% to 40% range for the full year. The company works closely with defence PSUs such as Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) and BEL, as well as government organisations like Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
