Shares of Data Patterns plunged 11% to their day's low of ₹3,565.6 on Friday after the company reported a sharp 13% decline in revenue from operations to ₹344.85 crore in the March quarter. According to reports from The Economic Times, the figure in the same quarter last year stood at ₹396.21 crore, marking a significant year-over-year drop in quarterly performance. However, the stock's performance shows a more nuanced picture when viewed annually - FY26 revenue grew 30.55% to ₹924.77 crore from ₹708.35 crore in FY25, demonstrating strong underlying business momentum. The stock hit an intraday low of ₹3,565.6 before recovering slightly by midday, though it remained down 4.7% while the benchmark Sensex edged up 0.17%. Latest trading data shows the stock fell 3.34% from ₹4,010.50 to ₹3,876.50 on Friday, with significant intraday volatility of 13.02% between a day high of ₹4,030.00 and low of ₹3,565.60.
Despite the revenue decline, Data Patterns demonstrated robust profitability improvements across key metrics. As reported by The Economic Times, the company posted a 21% jump in Q4 net profit to ₹138.38 crore from ₹114.08 crore in the same period last year. The company also reported a 29% year-on-year rise in EBITDA for Q4 FY26 at ₹192.8 crore, compared with ₹156.99 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Profit before tax (PBT) for the quarter increased 23% to ₹187.96 crore from ₹153.11 crore reported in Q4FY25. The most significant development was the EBITDA margin expansion to 55.9% in Q4FY26 from 37.7% in Q4FY25, with net profit margin reaching 40.1% up from 28.8% a year ago. This represents a dramatic improvement in operational efficiency, with the company keeping nearly ₹56 as operating profit for every ₹100 of revenue earned.
According to reports from The Economic Times, Data Patterns achieved a significant milestone with its order book standing at ₹2,062 crore as of March 31, 2026. The company reported that orders worth ₹528 crore were received during Q4 alone, driven by a large radar and service order from the India Meteorological Department worth ₹288.3 crore, along with avionics orders from HAL and DRDO. More importantly, negotiations have been completed for additional orders worth ₹1,090 crore, which are yet to be formally awarded. Including these negotiated orders, the total order book is expected to rise to ₹2,062 crore, representing an all-time high for the company and providing strong revenue visibility ahead. The strong pipeline is supported by favorable trends in India's defense sector, with the Union Budget for 2026-27 allocating ₹7.84 trillion to defense, capital expenditure rising 21.8%, and 75% of the capital acquisition budget set aside for domestic companies.
The market's sharp reaction was primarily driven by Data Patterns' warning that EBITDA margins for fiscal year 2027 are expected to compress significantly to a range of 35-40%, a sharp contrast to the 56% margin achieved in fiscal year 2026. This represents a significant departure from the company's previous target of 35-40% EBITDA margins for FY26, which it significantly surpassed. The company had previously navigated margin fluctuations, including a dip to 22.3% in Q2 FY26 due to competitive pricing on a large project, but the sustained drop from 56% to the 35-40% range points to potential challenges involving cost management, pricing power, or changes in project mix. Despite the margin warning, analysts maintain a positive outlook, with Motilal Oswal noting that while revenues missed expectations, EBITDA and margins exceeded estimates. Management has guided for 20-25% revenue growth over the next two to three years, with fresh order inflows of ₹2,000 crore expected in FY27.
From a technical perspective, Data Patterns shows mixed signals with a sell signal from the short-term Moving Average but a buy signal from the long-term average, indicating a general positive forecast. The stock is expected to rise 40% during the next 3 months with a 90% probability to hold between ₹5,154.22 and ₹6,137.98. However, recent negative signals include a sell signal from a pivot top point on May 7, 2026, which has resulted in an 8.79% decline, and a sell signal from the 3-month Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD). Trading volume increased by 2 million shares on Friday, which may be an early warning sign, with the stock moving ₹464.40 between high and low during the session. The stock maintains a current score of 0.413 with a Hold/Accumulate rating, suggesting attractive risk-reward dynamics for intraday trading despite the overall negative sentiment.
