Promoters of Cello World are exploring a potential sale of a controlling stake in the company, according to sources familiar with the development. The promoter group, which currently holds a 75% stake in the company, has initiated the process and appointed an investment banker to evaluate and run the transaction. As reported by CNBC TV18, early-stage discussions are underway, with the promoters reaching out to a clutch of large private equity players.
Among the private equity players who have received feelers are Kedaara Capital, Blackstone, Temasek, Advent International and Amundi's private equity arm, according to sources cited by CNBC TV18. The transaction is still at a preliminary stage, and any sale of a controlling stake is likely to trigger a mandatory open offer under market regulations, requiring the incoming investor to make an offer to public shareholders.
Cello World reported consolidated net sales of ₹553.66 crore for December 2025, representing a 0.57% year-on-year decline, as per the latest financial data. Despite the modest decline, the company's diversified product portfolio across writing instruments, stationery, moulded furniture and consumer housewares continues to drive its market presence in the consumer goods and home furnishing sectors.
Despite recent market volatility, multiple brokerages maintain positive outlook on Cello World. ICICI Securities has set a target price of ₹600 for the stock, while Motilal Oswal has issued a buy recommendation with target of ₹600. Prabhudas Lilladher has provided an even more optimistic target of ₹621, suggesting potential upside from current levels. The stock has shown recent volatility, ending 3.62% higher at ₹412 on Tuesday, though it has declined more than 31% over the last six months.
Analysts suggest that the recent decline may represent a near-term blip, with expectations of recovery from Q4 performance. The company's diversified business model across multiple consumer categories continues to provide stability, even as the promoter group explores strategic options for the controlling stake. The positive analyst recommendations despite recent stock performance indicate confidence in the company's long-term prospects and strategic positioning in the consumer goods market.
