Brahmaputra Infrastructure shares gained 3.35% to ₹169.85 following the announcement of its joint venture's successful bid for a major railway infrastructure contract. According to the latest exchange filing, the company emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a railway infrastructure contract worth ₹138 crore in partnership with HBMCPL. The stock spent much of the session trading within a narrow band before attracting stronger buying interest during the final hour, with volumes picking up noticeably alongside the late rally.
The Hybrid EPC contract involves comprehensive railway infrastructure development covering 69 kilometers from Kokrajhar station (excluding) to CH-4.100 and from Salakati station (excluding) to CH-0.400. As reported in the exchange filing, the project encompasses earthwork in formation and cutting, blanketing, construction of RCC boxes, RCC and PCC drains, retaining walls and toe walls, nine minor bridges, and one Road over Bridge (ROB). The contract also includes railway electrification works such as design, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of Overhead Equipment (OHE), electrical works, and signalling and telecom systems. The execution period is estimated at two years under the Hybrid EPC model.
The project forms part of the proposed KokrajharGelephu cross-border railway corridor, which will connect the Indian rail network with Gelephu in Bhutan. According to the company's filing, this section runs from Kokrajhar station to the initial stretch of the proposed Gelephu alignment. The broader railway project, announced under the bilateral understanding signed in September 2025, is estimated to cost around ₹3,456 crore and is being developed under the India-Bhutan inter-governmental MoU. This represents the opening construction package on a corridor expected to strengthen freight movement and regional connectivity between India and Bhutan, and is among the key cross-border rail connectivity projects planned in Northeast India.
The contract award positions the BIL-HBMCPL JV as the first contractor of record on the KokrajharGelephu corridor, as reported in the exchange filing. The company stated that early involvement will enable it to establish operational presence, build execution experience, and participate in future project packages expected to be awarded by NFR-CONST as the railway line progresses toward Gelephu. Winning the first package does not guarantee future work, but it places the joint venture inside a project that is expected to unfold through multiple construction phases over the coming years. Contractors already mobilised on the corridor often begin later tenders with execution experience, local logistics and working relationships that newcomers still need to build.
According to the exchange filing, the L1 bid does not involve any related-party transaction or promoter interest in the awarding authority. The project formally enters the company's order book only after the Letter of Acceptance is received and contractual documentation is completed. The contract, awarded by a domestic government entity, will be executed over a period of two years. Investors will therefore watch for the next exchange filing confirming award of the contract. Beyond the immediate value, the execution of this package will be closely tracked because it places the company on one of India's more strategically important railway expansion programmes, where timely delivery could strengthen its credentials for future railway EPC opportunities.
