Investors are closely tracking the sustainability of the improvement in operating performance and profitability across the diversified business portfolio.
Grasim Industries delivered exceptional Q1FY27 results with consolidated net profit of ₹2,146 crore, up 51% year-on-year, significantly outperforming the previous year's performance. The company achieved consolidated revenue from operations of ₹48,716 crore, up 21% YoY from ₹40,630 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. While EBITDA improved by 26% year-on-year to ₹8,077 crore, the EBITDA margin remained constant at 16% in the June 2026 quarter. The strong revenue growth was accompanied by profit before tax standing at ₹5,196 crore, up 34% from ₹3,876 crore in Q1FY26, demonstrating robust operational efficiency across all business segments.
The Building Materials division delivered strong results with revenue of ₹28,835 crore, up 21% YoY, led by improved profitability in the Cement business and continued reduction of investment phase impact from the Paints and B2B E-commerce businesses. According to Business Standard, this growth was driven by strong all-round performance across the diversified business portfolio. The segment houses UltraTech Cement, paints business Birla Opus and B2B E-commerce business Birla Pivot, with the company's total installed capacity for paints at 1,332 million litres per annum (MLPA) with all six state-of-the-art greenfield plants having commenced commercial production. UltraTech's total grey cement capacity currently stands at 205.5 MTPA, with the business expanding its total grey cement capacity to over 240 MTPA by March 2028.
According to Business Standard, Grasim Industries' Birla Opus strengthened its third-largest position in India's organised decorative paints industry, with revenue market share expanding by nearly 30 basis points quarter-on-quarter in Q1FY27. The paints segment revenue reached ₹1,661 crore, up 64% year-on-year, supported by robust dealer onboarding with first-time billed dealers increasing sequentially by over 10%. The B2B E-Commerce business Birla Pivot continues to witness strong B2B digital adoption, with revenue at ₹2,548 crore, up 75% YoY, underscoring the power of its one-stop shop platform offering one of the largest assortments of building materials products. As industry-wide input costs rose sharply, the business responded with calibrated price revisions with an overall impact of 8.8% in Q1FY27.
According to Business Standard, the Chemicals business revenue stood at ₹2,640 crore, up 10% YoY, with recovery in international prices along with rupee depreciation supporting higher domestic caustic soda realisations. However, further deterioration in Chlorine realisations due to lower demand from end-user industries moderated electrochemical unit (ECU) realizations. The Cellulosic Fibres segment revenue stood at ₹4,530 crore, up 12% YoY, led by improved global prices, rupee depreciation and favorable product mix. Revenue from other businesses stood at ₹1,126 crore, up 30% YoY, driven by robust performance of the Renewables and Textiles businesses, demonstrating the diversified nature of the company's operations across multiple sectors.
Birla Opus has re-emphasized its focus on achieving a ₹10,000 crore revenue target by FY28 and targeting 50%+ growth for FY27. The company continues to strengthen its environmental stewardship with renewable capacity power share increasing to 24% and proportion of recycled water to freshwater consumption at 50%. Grasim's budgeted capex for FY27 stands at ₹3,157 crore across all standalone businesses, with nearly 45% earmarked for growth projects, positioning the company for continued expansion in India's competitive paints and building materials market. The government's ambitious Viksit Bharat initiative is acting as a catalyst, spurring demand across core industries and creating an environment for growth, with Aditya Birla Capital delivering strong, broad-based performance across lending, insurance and asset management businesses.
