Bharat Electronics (BEL) has announced the appointment of Partha Pratim Pathak as independent director for a three-year term effective from August 18, 2026. According to the latest appointment order, the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, made the appointment through a letter dated August 17, 2026, with BEL's Board appointing Pathak as an Additional Director (Independent Director) through a circular resolution. Pathak will hold office for three years from the date of appointment or until further orders, whichever is earlier, as a Non-Official Director (Independent Director). The company has disclosed this appointment to stock exchanges in accordance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, with details provided in Annexure-2 as required under Regulation 30 read with para A(7) of Part A of Schedule-III of the Listing Regulations and SEBI Master Circular No.SEBI/HO/CFD/PoD2/CIR/P/0155 dated November 11, 2014.
Pathak brings over two decades of experience in waste management and environmental sustainability to the Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Defence. His entrepreneurial ventures have expanded into plastic waste recycling through Forcetech Energy, with businesses supporting healthcare institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pathak is the Promoter and Managing Director of Fresh Air Waste Management Services Private Limited and a Director of Forcetech Energy Private Limited. In 2004, he established the first Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facility (CBWTF) in Northeast India under Fresh Air Waste Management Services, marking an important step in strengthening biomedical waste management infrastructure in the region. Pathak has contributed to the development of India's biomedical waste management framework and played a role in the formulation of the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016, earning national recognition for innovation and sustainability compliance. He holds several key positions in industry associations, including President of Laghu Udyog Bharati's Purvottar chapter and President of the CBWTF Association of India, demonstrating his commitment to sustainable development and waste management initiatives.
The appointment adds specialized expertise in environmental regulation and waste management infrastructure to Bharat Electronics' governance structure. With the defence sector increasingly focusing on sustainable operations and compliance, Pathak's background in formulating national biomedical waste rules may support the company's adherence to evolving environmental standards. The company reported strong financial results for Q1 FY27, with standalone net profit increasing 8.17% year-on-year to ₹1,048.33 crore compared to ₹969.13 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. As reported by Business Standard, revenue from operations rose 25.27% YoY to ₹5,533.06 crore in Q1 FY27, reflecting healthy execution across its order pipeline. BEL manufactures electronic products and systems for the army, navy, and air force under the Government of India. The company is a Navratna public sector enterprise that designs, develops and manufactures advanced electronic systems and products primarily for the Indian Armed Forces and strategic sectors, while also operating in civilian and emerging technology areas including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, railways, homeland security and communications.
