Bharat Dynamics Limited has appointed Dr. Jagannath Nayak as Part-Time Official Director on its Board, effective from the date of allotment of the Director Identification Number (DIN), which is currently under process. The appointment was approved by the Ministry of Defence, Department of Defence Production, via an Office Memorandum dated October 6, 2026, with the company receiving intimation on October 7, 2026. Dr. Nayak currently serves as Director (Systems & Design) and Deputy Director General at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Dr. Nayak brings over 35 years of experience in defence research and development, with a specialization in indigenous design and development of advanced avionics for defence and aerospace applications. He holds an MS and a PhD in Electrical Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. His background includes leading the development, field testing, and technology transfer of India's first Directed Energy Weapon (DEW) system as Director of CHESS. He also serves as the chief architect of Fibre Optic Gyro guidance for Akash missiles and DEW-based Anti-Drone systems, and has been leading the indigenous development of Fibre Optic Gyroscopes as Project Director at the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad.
Dr. Nayak's appointment strengthens the board's technical expertise in advanced defence systems and aligns with Bharat Dynamics' focus on guided missile systems and air defence solutions. His expertise in critical technologies such as inertial navigation and directed energy weapons is particularly relevant, as his prior role in developing Fibre Optic Gyroscopes, now deployed in missiles, aircraft, and main battle tanks, indicates a deep understanding of supply chain self-reliance goals central to the company's operations. This integration of DRDO scientific leadership into public sector defence undertakings is expected to accelerate the company's progress toward achieving indigenous supply chain self-reliance for critical missile guidance components.
According to reports from Moneycontrol, earnings are expected to improve as deferred orders move into execution. The company's financial performance is anticipated to benefit from the transition of previously secured orders into active revenue-generating projects. This development suggests a positive trajectory for Bharat Dynamics' financial metrics in the near term, with the appointment of Dr. Nayak potentially accelerating the company's growth strategy through enhanced technical capabilities and strategic partnerships with DRDO.
As reported by Moneycontrol, execution visibility is supported by a healthy missile pipeline and export opportunities. The company's order book appears robust with multiple projects in various stages of development and implementation. This pipeline provides a foundation for sustained revenue generation and growth prospects in the defense sector, with the new leadership appointment expected to enhance the company's capabilities in advanced missile technologies and air defence systems.
