Ashoka Buildcon shares surged nearly 15% on Monday, August 31, marking their biggest single-day gain since April 9, 2020, when the stock had risen 18.2%. According to CNBC TV18, the stock is trading at ₹129 apiece, touching an intraday high, though it remains 27% down for the year. The significant rally came after the company announced receiving the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for its major contract under the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project in Uttarakhand. A total of 21.7 million shares changed hands on the BSE and NSE combined as of 9.45 AM, as reported by Business Standard. As per NSE data, the company has a total market capitalisation of ₹3,450.65 crore as of August 31, 2026.
Ashoka Buildcon has received the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for its major contract under the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project in Uttarakhand. According to the latest disclosure, the company had previously secured a ₹602.16 crore order for electro-mechanical works under Package-3 of Package E-4, involving comprehensive electrical infrastructure including 33/11 kV and 11/0.433 kV GIS substations, HT and LT cables, diesel generator (DG) sets, lighting systems, UPS systems, ventilation systems, fire-fighting systems and other associated works for tunnels T-13, T-14, T-15 and T-16. The contract encompasses the supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of Electro Mechanical (E&M) Systems as part of the Rishikesh Karnprayag New BG Rail Line Project, with execution scheduled within 30 months from the date of commencement. The contract was awarded by RVNL through a letter dated August 28, 2026.
The order is scheduled for execution within 30 months from the date of commencement, as reported by Business Standard. The company will be required to submit a performance bank guarantee of ₹25.51 crore to RVNL, with a defect liability period of two years for the project. The contract follows a Percentage Rate Bidding approach and carries a total consideration of ₹602.16 crore, inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST). Ashoka Buildcon clarified that the contract does not constitute a related-party transaction, with neither the promoters nor members of the promoter group having any interest in the entity awarding the contract.
Beyond the major RVNL contract, Ashoka Buildcon earlier this month received a letter of intent from REC Power Development and Consultancy for a transmission project in Maharashtra, which carries annual transmission charges of around ₹126.5 crore. The project involves establishing the Sakoli substation in Bhandara district, Maharashtra and was awarded via tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route, as per an Ashoka Buildcon exchange filing. The company ended Q1 FY27 (30 June 2026) with a total order book of ₹15,251 crore, excluding ₹451 crore of orders received after the quarter-end, as reported by ETInfra. Roads remain the core business, with road EPC (₹6,783 crore) and road HAM (₹1,519 crore) together accounting for about 54.5% of the book, while railways (₹1,346 crore) lifts the combined roads-and-rails share to roughly 63%.
Despite securing this major contract, Ashoka Buildcon reported challenging financial results for Q1 FY27. According to Business Standard, the company's consolidated net profit had dropped 41% to ₹128 crore in the first quarter for FY27, compared to ₹217 crore reported in the same period of the previous fiscal year. Revenue from operations had decreased 21% year-on-year to ₹1,500 crore in the April to June quarter as against ₹1,887 crore seen in Q1 FY26. The operating profit (EBITDA) declined 57% to ₹258 crore as against ₹598 crore in the corresponding period last year, with EBITDA margin contracting to 17.18% in contrast to 31.69% in the year-ago period. The company's consolidated debt stood at ₹2,773 crore by the end of the quarter, as per Business Standard.
From a technical perspective, Hitesh Rathi from Angel One highlighted that while some buying interest has emerged at lower levels in Ashoka Buildcon, the absence of a follow-through buy signal suggests a lack of sustained demand. "The broader chart setup also points towards an intense tussle between buyers and sellers for control. Consequently, a decisive breakdown below the ₹110–₹105 support band is likely to fuel the next leg of the prevailing downtrend. Conversely, a sustained move above the ₹135–₹142 band could signal a shift in control towards buyers, at least over the intermediate term," Rathi explained. Until either of these levels is decisively breached, the stock is likely to remain in a phase of consolidation amid continued uncertainty over its next directional move.
