An Air India Aircraft registered VT TQV came face-to-face with an IndiGo flight that was taking off as the former was landing at Ahmedabad airport on June 24, according to NDTV reports. The A320 Neo Air India flight had 164 passengers onboard and was towed at 8.18 p.m., with both aircraft maintaining safe distances during the encounter. As per IndiGo's official statement, IndiGo flight 6E 5160, scheduled to operate from Ahmedabad to Mumbai on 24 June 2026, was briefly delayed while taxiing out for departure after the Air India aircraft inadvertently took an incorrect turn and came in the way of their aircraft. The incident occurred at around 8 pm when Air India flight AI2493 arrived in Ahmedabad from Mumbai and was instructed to proceed to Stand 34L after landing, but reportedly took an incorrect turn while taxiing and moved onto the path of the IndiGo flight. According to Times Now sources, both aircraft were on the same taxiway when the incident occurred, with the Air India crew being asked to switch off the engine and request towing after taking the wrong turn. Business Standard reports confirm that both planes were narrow-body A320s and both aircraft came to a halt at a safe distance from each other, with the Air India aircraft separated by around 200 metres from the IndiGo plane during the encounter.
Air India acknowledged the incident in an official statement, confirming that flight AI2493 operating from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on June 24 inadvertently took a wrong turn during taxiing after landing. The airline emphasized that there was no compromise on the safety of passengers and crew, and the aircraft was subsequently towed back to the parking bay. IndiGo confirmed in their statement that both the aircraft came to a halt at a safe distance from each other, with the other aircraft subsequently towed away and their flight departing safely to Mumbai. As reported by NDTV, both airlines stated that the matter has been reported to regulatory authorities and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident. The incident resulted in a 20-minute delay for the IndiGo flight that was taking off during the encounter. According to IndiGo's official statement, their flight departed and landed safely at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai after the incident. As per IndiGo's spokesperson, in line with established protocols, the relevant authorities were immediately informed and the safety and security of customers, crew, and aircraft remain their topmost priorities. No collision took place as sufficient distance remained between the two aircraft throughout the incident, with airport authorities managing the situation effectively without any impact on passengers or crew. As reported by NDTV, flight AI479 had marginally infringed into Pakistan airspace during its approach to Amritsar airport, with the crew operating the flight from Delhi to Amritsar on June 22 having executed the go-around manoeuvre. According to Times Now sources, the flight was diverted to Delhi as the alternative diversion station for Amritsar is Delhi, as there was congestion at the airport. The pilot diverted back to Delhi as per standard operating procedure, with the airline confirming this incident and stating that the matter has been reported to relevant regulatory authorities and is being examined internally.
