Afcons Infrastructure has secured a significant ₹5,301 crore order for the construction of a 10.14-km breakwater at Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra. According to reports from LiveMint, the company received the Letter of Award from Vadhvan Port Project Limited (VPPL). Upon completion, the project will become the second-longest breakwater in the world, as stated in the regulatory filing. Managing Director S. Paramasivan expressed pride in securing one of the world's landmark marine projects, highlighting India's growing expertise in executing complex infrastructure projects globally. Executive Chairman Krishnamurthy Subramanian noted that the award reflects the company's proven capability in executing large and complex marine infrastructure projects, while emphasizing that the Vadhvan breakwater project will play a key role in supporting India's ambition of becoming a global maritime hub.
Despite the major order win, Afcons Infrastructure reported a consolidated net loss of ₹88.4 crore for the quarter ended March 2026, compared with a net profit of ₹110.9 crore in the corresponding period last year. As reported by LiveMint, revenue from operations declined 18.9% year-on-year to ₹2,613.8 crore from ₹3,223.3 crore, while EBITDA plunged 85.4% to ₹42.9 crore from ₹293.6 crore a year ago. The company attributed the weak performance to macroeconomic challenges and certain one-time factors.
The Vadhvan Port project represents a major milestone in India's maritime infrastructure development, with the port envisioned as the country's largest public port and one of the world's biggest container ports. As reported by multiple sources, Vadhvan Port is planned to have a cargo handling capacity of 23.2 million TEUs, significantly boosting India's trade and logistics capabilities. The ₹5,301 crore order is expected to strengthen Afcons Infrastructure's order book and enhance revenue visibility over the coming years, making the stock an important one to watch in the infrastructure and construction sector. Managing Director S. Paramasivan described the contract as a landmark achievement for the company and a demonstration of India's growing expertise in delivering world-class infrastructure projects.
The company's global credentials have been recognized by the Engineering News-Record (ENR), USA, which ranked Afcons Infrastructure as the 8th largest marine and port facilities contractor in the world. Afcons Infrastructure has a strong track record in the marine construction segment, having delivered several notable port and marine projects domestically, including its role in constructing the iconic Chenab Bridge. Globally, the company has successfully executed key developments such as the Bulk Jetty at Port of Sohar in Oman, the New Owendo International Port in Gabon, and the Sulphur Jetty project in Kuwait.
