
Advait Energy Transitions has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TECO Fuel Cell Technology AS, Norway to establish a comprehensive collaboration in hydrogen fuel cell technology. According to reports from ETManufacturing, the agreement was signed during the 3rd India-Nordic Summit in Oslo by Shalin Sheth, founder and managing director of Advait Energy Transitions, and Tore Enger, executive chairman of TECO Maritime Group and chief executive officer of TECO Fuel Cell Technology. The signing was witnessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Norway Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on the sidelines of the Summit. This strategic partnership aligns with the Government of India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
Under the agreement, TECO Fuel Cell Technology and its co-development partner AVL List GmbH will bring their jointly developed 400 kW hydrogen fuel cell module and a 100 kW hydrogen fuel cell stack to India for local manufacturing, adaptation and deployment. As reported by ETManufacturing, the hydrogen fuel cell technology is modular and scalable into multi-megawatt configurations. The collaboration will focus on knowledge transfer, joint engineering, testing and validation, and long-term technical cooperation with AVL List GmbH. This framework is designed to build domestic manufacturing expertise while leveraging international technology partnerships to support India's green energy transition goals.
The collaboration targets multiple sectors with specific production timelines. As reported by ETManufacturing, stationary power systems such as data centres are targeted for production from Q1 2027. Heavy-duty transport and mobility applications are scheduled for production from Q1 2028. Additionally, maritime and shipping applications are currently in development progressing alongside mobility applications through CY2028. The collaboration will target three application areas including stationary power systems, heavy-duty transport and mobility, and maritime and shipping applications.
The manufacturing programme is projected to create at least 200 direct and indirect skilled jobs by 2032 across engineering, production, systems integration and project execution. According to ETManufacturing, this represents a significant employment opportunity in India's emerging hydrogen fuel cell sector. The agreement aligns with the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which targets annual green hydrogen production of 5 million metric tonnes by 2030.
The signing forms part of Modi's five-nation diplomatic tour covering the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy between May 15 and May 20, 2026, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Norway in 43 years. As reported by ETManufacturing, Shalin Sheth stated that "This collaboration reflects the growing confidence of Indian companies to participate in global technology partnerships, localise advanced manufacturing, and contribute meaningfully to the future of sustainable energy systems." The partnership demonstrates India's commitment to advancing green energy technology through strategic international collaborations.
