Adani Power has signed a 25-year Power Supply Agreement with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) for supply of 1600 MW power on a long-term basis. According to the company's regulatory filing, the agreement follows Adani Power's receipt of a Letter of Award (LoA) from MSEDCL in March after emerging as the lowest bidder in a competitive tender, quoting a combined tariff of ₹5.30 per unit. Power supply under the agreement is expected to commence from FY31, strengthening the company's contracted capacity pipeline as part of its thermal expansion strategy.
The thermal power plant will be equipped with 2x800 MW capacity using Ultra-Supercritical technology, as reported by Business Standard. The project will be established under the Design, Build, Finance, Own & Operate (DBFOO) basis model, with the company handling comprehensive project development and operation responsibilities. The coal linkage for the power plant has been allocated under the Centre's SHAKTI Policy, providing long-term fuel security and ensuring secure coal supply for the thermal power generation project. The 2x800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant will be developed to meet Maharashtra's long-term electricity demand, with the project having secured coal linkage under the Government of India's SHAKTI Policy.
This latest agreement significantly enhances Adani Power's contracted capacity pipeline, supporting the company's ambitious thermal expansion plans. In March, the company had won five long-term power supply bids aggregating 10,400 MW during FY26, taking the total capacity tied up under long-term PSAs to 13.3 GW out of its 23.8 GW under-implementation pipeline. The company is expanding its generation capacity from 18.15 GW to 41.87 GW by FY22 as part of an investment programme of around ₹2 lakh crore, betting on sustained growth in India's electricity demand driven by industrialisation, urbanisation and rising household consumption. The 25-year agreement is expected to support Maharashtra's growing power requirements while expanding Adani Power's long-term generation portfolio through a new high-efficiency thermal power facility.
Adani Power reported strong financial results for Q4 FY26, with consolidated net profit surging 64.33% to ₹4,271.40 crore compared to ₹2,599.23 crore in Q4 FY25, as reported by Business Standard. However, revenue from operations remained largely flat at ₹14,223.09 crore in the quarter ended March 31, 2026, compared with ₹14,237.40 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Following the announcement of the MSEDCL agreement, shares of Adani Power rose 0.43% to ₹219.95 on the BSE, reflecting positive market sentiment towards the company's continued expansion in India's thermal power sector.
