Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has secured an approximately ₹8,500 crore inter-state transmission project in Andhra Pradesh to supply power to proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in Vizag. According to reports from ANI, the project was awarded through the Government of India's Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework, with AESL emerging as the most competitive bidder. The project, titled 'Transmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen/Green Ammonia Projects in Vizag Area, Andhra Pradesh (Phase-I)', will be housed under the special purpose vehicle, Vizag Power Transmission Ltd, and is contracted for delivery within 30 months.
The project will cater to an estimated demand of around 4,500 megawatts (MW) and involves establishing a 4x1500 megavolt ampere (MVA), 765/400 kilovolt (kV) gas-insulated substation (GIS) at Pendurthi in Vizag and a 3x1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Khammam-II substation. As reported by ANI, the project will add 1,582 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity to the company's portfolio. The project will also support the growing load requirement from the Pendurthi–Vizag region, where new data centre and digital infrastructure investments are taking shape.
According to the company statement reported by ANI, Vizag is increasingly emerging as one of India's significant digital infrastructure locations, supported by large-scale AI and hyperscale data centre developments, planned subsea connectivity and associated logistics, clean energy and industrial infrastructure. With this project, AESL's order book now stands at over ₹80,000 crore. The company's overall transmission network will now be 29,531 ckm and 133,675 MVA of transformation capacity. As green hydrogen production and data centres continue to expand in the region, reliable high-capacity transmission infrastructure will be critical to ensuring power availability, grid stability and long-term industrial competitiveness.
