Adani Enterprises jumped 6.09% to ₹3,132.90 following the announcement of a significant investment deal by its subsidiary. According to reports from The Times of India, the company's subsidiary Adani Airport Holdings (AAHL) has entered into binding agreements to raise ₹9,825 crore (around $1 billion) of primary equity capital from a consortium of investors. The transaction values AAHL at a pre-money equity valuation of approximately $18 billion, marking one of the largest primary equity investments in India's airport infrastructure sector from financial institutions.
The investor consortium comprises Alpha Wave Global, Premji Invest, Temasek and BlackRock-managed funds. As reported by The Times of India, the investors will subscribe to new equity shares of AAHL in three tranches, with the final tranche expected to be completed by July 2027. Upon completion, the investor consortium will collectively hold around 5.54% in AAHL. The transaction was advised by multiple legal and financial advisors including Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, AZB & Partners, JSA Advocates and Solicitors, TT&A Advocates and Solicitors, Jefferies India Private Limited, SBI Capital Markets Limited, and Ernst & Young LLP. The deal demonstrates significant investor confidence in AAHL's long-term growth and operational proficiency in India's expanding aviation sector.
According to The Times of India, the proceeds will support three strategic priorities - expanding and modernising airport infrastructure across AAHL's portfolio; accelerating the development of integrated Adani airport city ecosystems around its airports with development of about 2.2 crore square feet of mixed-use development planned in the first phase; and scaling up of passenger-facing and other non-aeronautical businesses, including its ground handling business. The funds will facilitate the planned development of around 22 million square feet of mixed-use space and augment the capacity to handle an estimated 200 million passengers annually, while enabling scaling of AAHL's ground handling and other non-aeronautical businesses. AAHL oversees eight airports and is responsible for more than 23% of India's total passenger traffic, positioning it as a key player in the country's aviation infrastructure development.
As reported by Financial Times, Jeet Adani, younger son of Gautam Adani and the executive who controls Adani Airport Holdings, told the publication that the company would now "very selectively" pursue other opportunities "of size and relevance" after the $1 billion investment. The company, which currently operates only in India, earlier this year submitted a bid to operate Sicily's main airport. This international expansion comes as part of Adani Group's broader overseas ambitions, with the conglomerate also exploring a bid for Associated British Ports, Britain's largest port operator, which would mark its first investment in the UK. The international airport expansion aligns with India's aviation sector growth and the rising spending power of Indian consumers.
Jeet Adani, non-executive director of Adani Airport Holdings, stated that this partnership marks an important milestone in building out the Adani Airports platform, recognising it as a pivotal milestone in expanding Adani Airports' platform. Arun Bansal, CEO of AAHL, emphasized the potential for developing world-class airport infrastructure in India, benefiting from growing urbanisation and consumer spending power. According to Financial Times, Jeet Adani indicated that the $1 billion investment would primarily be used to expand Adani Airport's footprint in India, with plans to increase the total annual capacity of its eight airports over the next five years to 200 million passengers from the current 120 million. The company aims to blend advanced technology, consumer engagement, and sustainable practices for comprehensive airport development.
According to Business Standard, Adani Enterprises is the flagship company of Adani Group, one of India's largest business conglomerates. The company reported a consolidated net loss of ₹1,160.23 crore in Q1 FY27 compared with net profit of ₹885.23 crore in Q1 FY26. However, revenue from operations jumped 49.92% YoY to ₹32,923.98 crore in Q1 FY27. The transaction comes shortly after Adani Enterprises' ₹15,000-crore qualified institutional placement in July, which the company said was the largest QIP by a non-financial corporate in India. The latest transaction follows AEL's successful ₹15,000 crore QIP in July 2026, underscoring the Adani group company's continued access to domestic and international institutional capital, demonstrating robust market confidence in the Adani Group's ventures.
