
ACME Solar Holdings Limited announced on Wednesday that it has cumulatively operationalised over 2 GWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity in Rajasthan, making it one of the first Indian renewable energy companies to reach this scale of energy storage deployment. According to The Hindu BusinessLine, the Gurugram-based company's total operational BESS capacity now stands at 591.18 MW / 2,031.24 MWh across various subsidiaries in the state. The company has set a target to operationalise 10 GWh of BESS by 2027, with the deployment translating into a total operational capacity of 591.18 MW or 2,031.24 MWh across its subsidiaries in the state.
Shares of ACME Solar rose 1.65 per cent to ₹301.15 on Wednesday, against a previous close of ₹296.25, with a session high of ₹304.45. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, the stock has gained over 22 per cent in the past month and nearly 27 per cent year-to-date, significantly outperforming the Nifty 500, which is down 4 per cent in the same period. The company's total market capitalisation stands at approximately ₹18,255 crore. The milestone underscores ACME Solar's growing focus on energy storage as a critical enabler of renewable energy integration, reinforcing its long-term strategy in India's clean energy transition.
According to the announcement, the BESS projects are designed to charge during off-peak hours and discharge during periods of high demand, supporting grid stability and more efficient power utilisation. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, the company describes itself as an integrated renewable energy developer with a total portfolio of 8,071 MW spanning solar, wind, hybrid, and Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) solutions. Its operational contracted capacity stands at 2,990 MW, while the under-construction contracted capacity is 5,081 MW, including around 15 GWh of planned BESS installations. The battery energy storage systems are designed to improve grid performance by managing fluctuations in power demand, storing energy during low-demand periods and releasing it during peak hours to help balance supply and demand.
The company handles project development, engineering, procurement, construction, and operations in-house. According to The Hindu BusinessLine, the company's under-construction contracted capacity includes approximately 15 GWh of planned BESS installations, demonstrating its commitment to expanding its energy storage capabilities beyond the current milestone achievement. Alongside its current operational base, ACME Solar is also executing a broader renewable portfolio that includes projects under construction and power purchase agreements, reflecting a steady pipeline of growth in storage-linked infrastructure.
