Private and public sector banks across India will remain open today, 4 July 2026, according to the Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar. As reported by Mint, customers planning to visit branches of SBI, HDFC, ICICI or other banks should note that banks will operate as usual today. The confusion stems from today being a Saturday, but RBI's official guidelines mandate that the second and fourth Saturdays and every Sunday in each month are weekend holidays for all banks.
Banks across India will remain closed for a total of 12 days in July 2026, according to the RBI's comprehensive holiday calendar. The closure includes six nationwide weekend closures (Sundays on 5, 12, 19 and 26 July 2026) and six state-specific holidays for regional festivals and commemorative occasions. Since it is the first Saturday of the month, banks operations will resume as normal and customers can approach banks for offline services. The central bank mandates all scheduled and non-scheduled banks to observe closure on all Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays in a month, with the second Saturday falling on 11 July and fourth Saturday on 25 July.
Banks in several states will remain closed for nearly 2 more days in addition to weekend holidays since certain days are marked as non-working days for banks under Negotiable Instruments Act and other under Banks' Closing of Accounts in RBI's holiday calendar. July 6 (Monday) – MHIP Day/Birth Anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee will see bank services suspended in Mizoram (Aizawl) and West Bengal (Kolkata). July 9 (Thursday) – Beh Deinkhlam will close banks in Meghalaya (Shillong).
July 16 (Thursday) – Ratha Yatra/Kang (Rathajatra)/Harela will affect banks in Odisha (Bhubaneswar), Manipur (Imphal) and Uttarakhand (Dehradun). July 17 (Friday) – Death Anniversary of U Tirot Singh will close banking services in Manipur (Imphal). July 18 (Saturday) – Drukpa Tshe-zi will affect banks in Sikkim (Gangtok). July 22 (Wednesday) – Kharchi Puja will close banks in Tripura (Agartala).
Even though bank branches will remain closed on the above-mentioned dates, digital banking channels, such as internet banking, mobile banking, UPI services and ATMs, will continue to operate normally. As reported by Mint, customers can carry out essential transactions without disruption through these digital platforms. The RBI calendar provides comprehensive detail about non-working days for banks under Negotiable Instruments Act and other under Banks' Closing of Accounts in addition to weekend offs. For cash emergencies, ATMs are open for withdrawals, app and UPI function as usual, and fund transfer requests can be made using NEFT/RTGS transfer forms, demand draft request forms and chequebook forms.
