OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Financial Services on Thursday, a tailored ChatGPT Work experience designed specifically for financial institutions. According to reports from Business Standard, the product combines built-in financial data with GPT-6 Astra's reasoning capabilities and has been developed in partnership with Morgan Stanley and Evercore. As reported by CNBC, OpenAI's vice president of product Nick Turley stated that the product is targeting the labor-intensive research, modeling and pitchbook tasks traditionally handled by junior bankers. The company is effectively teaching ChatGPT to research like an analyst and back up its conclusions like an analyst as well, with Turley noting that if analysts or bankers are working 100-hour weeks, technology like this will allow them to produce better analysis faster. The product is now available to eligible financial institutions with interested firms encouraged to contact OpenAI or their account teams.
The product includes datasets from providers such as Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News and Crunchbase, covering areas including earnings transcripts, financial statements, company fundamentals and private companies. As reported by Business Standard, OpenAI said citations attached to the data allow bankers to trace figures and claims back to their original sources and verify the evidence supporting their analysis. Teams can start working with the datasets immediately, with no separate contracts to negotiate or connectors to set up, as OpenAI indexes and hosts the data on its own infrastructure. The product offers native data access from LSEG, Daloopa and PitchBook that furnishes the system with things like financial statements and earnings transcripts as well as automated access to users' existing data subscriptions. Other features tailor-built for finance include citations that allow users to trace data back to source filings and audit charts as well as administrative controls for sensitive deal materials.
The product offers OpenAI's frontier intelligence, including GPT-6 Astra, which is designed to support three core capabilities required for financial services work: information retrieval, financial reasoning and artifact generation. According to Business Standard, the model can navigate and understand figures, tables and supporting notes in financial documents, conduct financial analysis and draw conclusions, then synthesis the work into documents, spreadsheets and slides. In a live demonstration, Turley showed the platform analyzing a potential M&A target, pulling financial figures from industry-standard data sources and creating a formatted PowerPoint deck based on a bank's preformatted style guide. As reported by VentureBeat, OpenAI describes Astra as state of the art across three capabilities it considers central to financial-services work: information retrieval, financial reasoning and artifact generation. The company says Astra can navigate figures, tables and supporting notes in financial documents, conduct financial analysis from those inputs and synthesize the work into documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
ChatGPT for Financial Services allows administrators to publish Excel, Word and PowerPoint templates through a dedicated admin page, enabling teams to turn analysis into valuation models, research notes and pitchbooks using their firm's preferred format and style. As reported by Business Standard, OpenAI is working with S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Dow Jones Factiva and Moody's on shared sign-in and entitlement integrations, allowing providers to recognise users through their ChatGPT sign-in and automatically provide access to data for which those users already have entitlements. The product includes over 50+ connectors including Datasite, Box, Preqin, FactSet and Intapp, with the company focusing on making the most used MCPs in financial services optimized for immediate use. According to VentureBeat, administrators can publish approved Excel, Word and PowerPoint templates through a dedicated administration page, once a firm's templates and style guidance are configured, employees can generate valuation models, research notes and pitchbooks using the institution's preferred formats. During demonstrations, OpenAI showed administrators centrally distributing templates while individual users could save templates for their own future use, and the system took financial-model outputs and created interactive websites with controls that allowed users to change assumptions and see how those changes flowed through projected results.
The launch puts OpenAI deeper into territory traditionally occupied by Wall Street's entry-level bankers, as the company continues its push into enterprise offerings ahead of what is widely expected to be a blockbuster initial public offering. As reported by CNBC, OpenAI has spent much of the last year racing to win over business customers in the fiercely competitive enterprise market, where it's working to fend off rivals including Anthropic and Google. Anthropic announced its own tailored solution for Wall Street, Claude for Financial Services, last year. Sarah Friar, OpenAI's finance chief, told investors in August that the company's enterprise business accounted for more revenue than its consumer business, which took off following the launch of ChatGPT in 2022. Turley told reporters during the briefing that OpenAI plans to release tailored solutions for a number of sectors beyond financial services, indicating the company's broader enterprise expansion strategy.
