The Bharat Electronics Manufacturing and Export Summit (BEMES) has received official government backing with Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, announcing his support for the initiative. As per the latest press release from the Press Information Bureau, the minister emphasized the summit's importance in driving India's electronics manufacturing and export ambitions. The summit is now confirmed to be held in February 2027, with the government's endorsement providing additional momentum to the industry-led initiative.
However, industry leaders expressed mixed views on the proposed consolidation strategy. As reported by Business Standard, Rajoo Goel, director general of the Electronic Industries Association of India (Elcina), questioned whether bringing everything together was the best approach, comparing it to 'putting all your eggs in one basket'. Meanwhile, Ashok Chandak, president of SEMI India, emphasized the need for associations to adopt a non-competitive approach and connect various associations properly to address national agenda seamlessly. He proposed establishing a coordination panel committee to conduct monthly or quarterly meetings to address challenges and opportunities.
According to Chandak's proposal reported by Business Standard, the coordination panel committee would strengthen synergy among industry bodies, allowing them to work together effectively. He stated that from a national agenda perspective, various associations are the dots that must be connected properly so the holistic approach addresses the national agenda seamlessly. Ajit Manocha, president and CEO of SEMI, suggested creating a permanent steering committee to allow industry body leaders to deliberate on events like Semicon India, emphasizing that there is a place for everyone in the electronics industry.
