The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is likely to complete the re-evaluation of Class 12 board examination answer scripts by Thursday using the same on-screen marking (OSM) platform developed by Hyderabad-based Coempt Eduteck Pvt Ltd, according to senior officials. As reported by Business Standard, re-evaluations are currently happening through the OSM system and should be completed by Thursday at the latest. The board is expected to declare the results by the end of June following the completion of the re-evaluation exercise.
CBSE has transferred answer-sheet records and OSM data from Coempt's infrastructure to systems under its own control to ensure greater oversight of the security and operational aspects of the re-evaluation process, officials confirmed to Business Standard. The system is now under CBSE's control, with cybersecurity professionals and IIT officials overseeing it. This transfer comes after the IIT panel granted security clearance to the examiner-facing portal, which was previously targeted by a large-scale cyberattack involving nearly 3.8 million malicious packets on June 3 in an apparent attempt to disrupt the ongoing verification and re-evaluation process.
As of June 4, the Board had received 70,433 applications through the post-result grievance redressal mechanism, including 7,314 applications for verification of marks and 63,119 applications for re-evaluation, as reported by ANI. With the re-evaluation process nearing completion, CBSE can begin the final stages of result processing. After completion of the re-evaluation exercise, the answer sheets will be sent for verification and then compiled for final result processing, with the board expected to declare results by the end of June.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education has started a separate review of CBSE's OSM marking system for 2026, marking one of the most closely monitored evaluation exercises undertaken by the board in recent years. The ongoing scrutiny by both IIT experts and the parliamentary panel demonstrates the heightened level of oversight being applied to the re-evaluation process. The re-evaluation exercise comes against the backdrop of controversy surrounding CBSE's on-screen marking system after students and parents reported discrepancies in scanned answer scripts made available during the verification process. In several cases flagged on social media and through complaints to CBSE, students alleged that pages were missing, answer sheets appeared incomplete or improperly scanned, and handwritten responses were either partially visible or difficult to read. The complaints triggered questions about whether such scanning issues could have affected the evaluation and re-evaluation process. Following fresh complaints over scanned answer sheets and alleged discrepancies flagged by students, the Ministry of Education ordered a review of the platform, with IIT experts examining its architecture, security protocols and operational processes.
