Accel-backed deep-tech startup Vimag Labs has successfully commenced production at its first manufacturing facility located in Met City, Jhajjar, Haryana. According to reports from Press Trust of India, the company has already completed and exported its first production batch from the newly operational facility. The site represents the starting point of a phased manufacturing build-out strategy in India, marking a significant milestone for the motor and control systems manufacturer. As reported by Press Trust of India, the facility manufactures and assembles motor and control systems and related propulsion systems, including Vimag's proprietary magnet-free motor technology, supported by testing infrastructure and advanced production systems.
As reported by Press Trust of India, Vimag Labs plans to invest ₹50 crore in a phased manner to scale capacity at the Jhajjar facility. The company plans to invest approximately ₹50 crore in a phased manufacturing expansion in India, with the timing and scale of investment dependent on customer demand, production volumes and capacity requirements. According to Manish Seth, Co-founder and CEO of Vimag Labs, as reported by Press Trust of India, "Our initial focus is on scaling mid-power motor and control systems for commercial programmes. As customer programmes mature, we plan to extend manufacturing into high-power systems of 570 kW and above and deepen partnerships across India for manufacturing, supply chain, tooling and industrialisation." The overall scale of investment will continue to evolve with market traction and expansion opportunities.
According to Press Trust of India, the Jhajjar facility currently covers 10,000 sq ft with the ability to expand to approximately 20,000 sq ft. The initial phase focuses on the production and process validation of mid-power motor and control systems for electric mobility and other electrified applications. The manufacturing setup includes clean-room areas, digitally connected production systems, Industry 4.0 and IoT-enabled monitoring, traceability and a highly automated production line. The company's manufacturing network is designed to scale toward up to 10,000 motor and control systems per month as customer volumes build, with the objective to combine advanced motor and control technology with repeatable, scalable and quality-controlled manufacturing rather than operate as a conventional assembly facility.
As reported by Press Trust of India, the manufacturing build-out is expected to create approximately 100 to 150 direct and indirect employment opportunities across manufacturing, quality, testing, engineering, supply chain and operations. Local recruitment forms an important part of the company's workforce expansion strategy. The objective is to create a flexible India-based production base that can scale with customer traction and support both domestic and global programmes. According to Press Trust of India, as the manufacturing build-out scales, Vimag expects to create approximately 100 to 150 direct and indirect employment opportunities across manufacturing, quality, testing, engineering, supply chain and operations, with local recruitment forming an important part of the company's workforce expansion strategy.
According to Press Trust of India, Vimag Labs recently raised $5 million in its Series A round led by Accel, with participation from Chakra Growth Fund and Thinkuvate. The company has also signed a manufacturing MoU with Jendamark Pvt. Ltd. to support the scale-up of its VMSM (Virtual Magnet Synchronous Motor) technology. Additionally, Vimag has secured an exclusive U.S. technology licensing, manufacturing and commercialisation agreement for a bidirectional high-voltage inverter platform capable of operating at up to 1,000 volts. The company is evaluating additional manufacturing locations and partnerships across India to support domestic and international customer programmes, with the long-term goal of building a globally competitive production base in India for domestic and international customers.
