Skyroot Aerospace has set an ambitious target of at least one rocket launch per month by end-2027, as reported by Business Standard. The company expects to launch Vikram-2 by the end of 2027, which will feature higher payload capacity enabling larger satellite launches and faster constellation deployment. Vikram-2 is designed to handle payloads of up to 900 kg, significantly exceeding the capabilities of the current Vikram-1 vehicle, with improved unit economics that will reduce space access costs substantially.
The success of Vikram-1 has fundamentally transformed Skyroot's position in the global space industry, according to company statements reported by Business Standard. The vehicle became the first firm to successfully put satellites into orbit using a completely new vehicle on its first attempt, demonstrating the complexity and precision capabilities of an Indian company. The launch involved more than 1,000 independent systems working together, showcasing the effectiveness of years of design, testing, and development efforts. The success has generated huge global recognition and created a strong reputation that will enable better collaborations and future achievements.
Following Vikram-1's successful launch, Skyroot has seen increased customer interest converting into firm contracts, as reported by Business Standard. The company confirms that around 70-80 per cent of customers approaching them are from the global market. While signing launch contracts is typically a lengthy process, the success has accelerated engagement with potential customers and is expected to result in new contract announcements as agreements are finalized. The company targets the second Vikram-1 launch by end of this year, which will likely be another test flight to demonstrate consecutive successful launches.
The global launch industry is projected to grow into a $50 billion market by around 2031, according to company statements reported by Business Standard. Currently, only two companies globally - SpaceX and Rocket Lab - carry out regular launches, highlighting significant market opportunities. Skyroot has received substantial government support, with the IN-SPACe team enabling launch authorizations in an efficient manner. The company advocates for PLI-type schemes and other incentives to boost the sector, noting that the Centre and state governments are already providing various industry incentives.
