SAMMMM, a fast-growing self-care brand targeting Gen Z and Gen Alpha consumers, was founded by 16-year-old Samara Roy in June 2025. According to reports from Livemint, Roy's journey began at age 12 when she turned to beauty and self-care as a coping mechanism while navigating school pressure and searching for authentic community. The brand was co-founded by Roy, her father Mantosh Roy (former VP at Nykaa), and Rishi Seth (former VP at Nykaa). Roy challenged traditional beliefs that beauty products are meant only for mature consumers aged 18 and above, focusing instead on inclusivity and real community engagement. As Roy explained to Livemint, "One of the biggest struggles for me as a teenager was finding the right people, people who genuinely supported me, shared similar principles and values, and with whom I could really connect."
The company's consumer-first philosophy has resonated with institutional investors, following its initial seed funding round led by Fireside Ventures and Sauce VC. As reported by Livemint, SAMMMM has reportedly raised four subsequent bridge rounds to fuel its expansion. The brand achieved remarkable growth, with quarterly gross sales growing approximately 17x between the second quarter of FY2025-26 (July to September 2025) and April to June 2026. Despite launching on only two major platforms - Amazon and Nykaa - and its own website, the company sold close to 1,00,000 units of its best-selling products across these three channels. According to Mantosh Roy, the company was selling one unit every two minutes across India at launch, demonstrating strong initial market traction.
SAMMMM launched its first product, a pH-reactive lip tint designed to adjust according to each consumer's skin type. According to Livemint, the brand focuses on building products specifically for Gen Z and Gen Alpha consumers, with Roy emphasizing that the company sold one unit every 2 minutes during peak periods. The brand's philosophy prioritizes repeat customer retention, routine-building product bundles, and a tight portfolio of co-created SKUs as its long-term strategy. Roy explained her approach: "If something doesn't align with how I envision the brand or with the principles we've set, then it's simply not happening."
The 16-year-old founder faces challenges in balancing school and work while dealing with skepticism from adults who question her credibility as a teen founder. As reported by Livemint, Roy emphasized her strength lies in understanding teenagers' thoughts, behaviors, and engagement with products and brands. "When adults see a teenager walk into a room, it can sometimes become an ego game because there is an assumption that they are older, so they automatically know more. For me, that has meant having to prove that I do know a lot about the space," she explained. Her long-term goal extends beyond financial metrics, focusing on building a meaningful community rather than simply growing the company's name recognition or revenue. The brand continues to target the growing beauty and personal care product market in India, which is dominated by legacy players but attracting attention from India-born brands with innovative products.
