Indian space technology startup Pixxel announced on Monday it had raised $100 million in a Series C funding round, marking the single-largest funding round by a space technology company in India. According to reports from Mint, the round was co-led by Singapore state investor Temasek and British space-technology venture firm Seraphim. The funding round also included existing investors Radical Ventures and growX Ventures, as well as new investors 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment, bringing the company's total funding to $195 million. As per Mint, the investment marks the single-largest funding round raised by a space-technology company in India and signals Pixxel's next phase of growth as it broadens its role across the space-tech value chain.
As reported by Mint, Pixxel is one of the Indian space startups that emerged after the government opened the sector to private players. Founded by Awais Ahmed in 2019, the company began with hyperspectral satellites that could reveal information about the Earth's surface beyond what conventional imagery could capture. The company has since expanded its scope to include Aurora, its Earth intelligence software, and satellite systems for both commercial and sovereign space missions. According to Mint, Pixxel has deployed six Firefly satellites over the past two years, forming the world's highest-resolution commercial hyperspectral constellation, and launched Aurora, its Earth intelligence software platform. According to Mint, these components form the core of the company's planetary infrastructure vision, connecting sensors, software, and space systems to help governments, industries, and institutions turn Earth observation into actionable intelligence.
According to Mint, the fresh capital will help Pixxel expand its sensing capabilities through its Honeybee satellite constellation and high-resolution optical imaging satellites. The funding will also further develop Aurora as a platform that combines these datasets into decision-ready insights. As reported by the company, these technological advancements are designed to support governments, industries, and institutions in utilizing Earth observation data for practical applications across various sectors. The Series C funding will accelerate four strategic priorities: extending sensing capabilities through the Honeybee constellation and high-resolution optical imaging satellites, deepening work on sovereign Earth observation systems, and accelerating manufacturing capacity through Gigapixxel, its next-generation facility designed for high-rate production of advanced satellites.
Awais Ahmed, founder and chief executive officer of Pixxel, stated that "Years ago, we set out to build a health monitor for the planet. Hyperspectral imaging gave us a fundamentally new way to see Earth. This new investment gives us the scale to turn that vision into planetary infrastructure. More ways of sensing, more intelligence from every image, and more sovereign capability for nations. Our goal is to make a changing planet understandable in time to act." According to Mint, Mark Boggett, chief executive officer at Seraphim Space, said "Pixxel is exceptionally well-positioned across some of the most important themes shaping the future of the space sector, from AI-powered Earth observation and sovereign space capabilities to the rise of India as a global SpaceTech leader. We're delighted to deepen our support as the company continues to scale."
