Nandan Nilekani-backed Fundamentum Partnership has launched Fundamentum Frontier Advisors (F2A), a tech-focused investment platform targeting a ₹3,000 crore corpus. According to latest reports, the fund will manage Fundamentum's Fund III, which has received SEBI approval with a target corpus of ₹2,000 crore. The platform will also oversee up to ₹1,000 crore in parallel co-investments, bringing the total corpus to ₹3,000 crore. Infosys co-founder Nilekani serves as the anchor investor in the fund, with the ₹3,000 crore corpus being raised in India from both domestic and foreign investors.
As reported by Moneycontrol, F2A represents a strategic evolution for Kumar, who previously backed consumer startups including Spinny, Kuku, PharmEasy, AppsForBharat and others. Kumar explained his decision to focus on nonlinearity plays in AI and deeptech, stating that these companies could create far larger value compared to traditional technology investments. The fund will invest in 4-5 companies over the next 6-9 months, with cheque sizes ranging from ₹50 crore to ₹150 crore ($5-16 million). Overall, the fund expects to invest in 12-15 startups across consumer AI, enterprise AI and physical AI sectors.
The fund structure includes a ₹1,000 crore investment vehicle set up outside India, alongside the domestic ₹2,000 crore corpus. Both vehicles will be managed by F2A to create a portfolio of 12-15 startups. The dual structure allows for broader geographic diversification while maintaining focus on India's technology ecosystem, with Kumar noting that F2A is an evolution, not a departure from Fundamentum's core strategy.
As reported by Mint, F2A has appointed former Sidbi Venture Capital senior fund manager Debraj Banerjee as general partner to co-lead the AI and deeptech strategy alongside co-founder Ashish Kumar. Banerjee brings nearly two decades of experience across venture capital, institutional finance and technology-led businesses. His investment portfolio includes AI and deeptech companies such as QpiAI, Pantherun, Digantara, SigTuple, Myelin Foundry, OTPless, Fyllo, Covalense Digital, OmniBRx Biotechnologies and Seresoft Solutions, as well as consumer brands including The Ayurveda Experience, Vahdam, DrinkPrime and Nourish You. Kumar has previously sourced and invested in consumer technology companies including Spinny, Kuku, AppsForBharat, and Wishlink, as well as enterprise technology companies FarEye, Whizzo, and GenieMode.
"F2A is a continuation of our effort to partner with founders building enduring, technology-led businesses, with the same disciplined, long-term approach that has defined Fundamentum," said Ashish Kumar, founder and managing partner of F2A. Kumar emphasized that India currently has the right combination of talent, ambition, policy and capital for frontier-tech companies to scale. The platform will focus on companies building across consumer AI, enterprise AI and physical AI sectors, which have seen growing investor attention globally amid rapid advances in generative AI and automation technologies. Kumar will continue overseeing the existing portfolio of Fundamentum's earlier funds alongside building F2A, reflecting the firm's commitment to maintaining its comprehensive investment approach.
