AI search startup Exa Labs has secured $250 million in fresh financing led by Andreessen Horowitz, according to Bloomberg reports. The funding round values the company at $2.2 billion, representing a significant jump from the approximately $700 million valuation the company carried last fall. This marks a sharp increase from the company's earlier funding round in September 2025, when Exa raised $85 million to accelerate development of its AI-focused search platform at a valuation of about $700 million. The valuation jump from $700 million to $2.2 billion in under a year represents an acceleration that outpaces most Series B-to-C timelines in the current market.
The company has significantly expanded its customer base, now serving over 400,000 developers across 5,000+ companies, as reported by Exa. Exa powers search for major AI platforms including Cursor, Cognition, HubSpot, OpenRouter, and Monday.com, with the platform serving over 100,000 developers in its earlier phase. The startup's core product sits at the query layer that agent stacks depend on to pull live information from the web, with the company positioning itself as developing "the search engine for AIs." The company's customers include Notion, Harvey, and Clay, with the platform serving over 100,000 developers.
Exa has built a web-scale search engine from scratch with crawlers tracking over 500 billion URLs and research teams training special embedding models on a GPU cluster, as reported by Exa. The company has developed the fastest search API in the world at sub-200ms latency and fast text extraction models that reduce LLM token counts by over 20x. For GTM agents, Exa has built comprehensive indexes over people and companies verticals that can run for minutes to gather all data agents need, while coding agents benefit from finetuned special embedding models for code search. The company's infrastructure is designed to handle hundreds of thousands of searches per second as AI adoption scales.
With this funding, Exa is assembling world-class talent to scale operations, including the head of retrieval infra from Meta, head of search backend at Yandex, and a research team from Google, as reported by Exa. Marcus Holm, President of LaunchDarkly, is joining as Exa's CRO to lead the global go-to-market organization. The company is hiring across sales, solutions, and marketing worldwide. This strategic hiring reflects the company's positioning to handle the unprecedented scale of agent search demand as trillions of agents come online over the coming years.
