According to reports from Bloomberg News and Business Standard, Anthropic PBC has successfully closed its latest funding round that exceeded $30 billion at a valuation above $900 billion, vaulting ahead of rival OpenAI to become the world's most valuable AI startup. The funding round closed as soon as next week, with Sequoia Capital, Dragoneer Investment Group, Altimeter Capital, and Greenoaks Capital Partners co-leading the financing. Each of these firms invested roughly $2 billion, while a number of existing Anthropic investors including Peter Thiel's Founders Fund and General Catalyst also participated in the round. The large round came together in a matter of weeks, demonstrating strong investor demand for the Claude maker, with commitments currently tracking north of the $30 billion target.
As reported by Bloomberg News and Business Standard, Anthropic expects to post $10.9 billion in revenue for the second quarter, more than doubling from the prior three-month period as demand surges for its AI software. The company is also on pace for its first profitable quarter. According to people familiar with the matter, Anthropic has told investors that its annualized run rate revenue will surpass $50 billion by the end of next month, compared to $4 billion in July of last year. At a conference this month, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said the firm had experienced '80x growth' in annualized revenue and usage in the first quarter of this year, prompting the company to work as quickly as possible to secure more computing resources to support its services.
According to Bloomberg News and Business Standard, Anthropic has struck a nearly $45 billion deal with Elon Musk's SpaceX and a $1.8 billion agreement with Akamai Technologies Inc. to expand its computing capacity. The company has also tapped Alphabet Inc.'s Google for chips and cloud services. Google recently committed to invest $10 billion in the startup at a $350 billion valuation, with plans to invest up to $30 billion more if the startup hits certain performance targets. Amazon.com Inc. previously said it's investing $5 billion in Anthropic at a $350 billion valuation, with plans to inject $20 billion more over time, though it's unclear whether these two firms participated in the current funding round.
As reported by Bloomberg News and Business Standard, Anthropic, founded in 2021 by a group of former OpenAI employees, has emerged as a leader in the AI sector with a series of AI tools aimed at overhauling business tasks from coding to cybersecurity. The company is expected to go public as soon as this fall, along with OpenAI, which was most recently valued at $852 billion in a funding round completed in March and is expected to confidentially file draft paperwork to go public in the coming days. Founded in 2012, OpenAI has been the dominant player in the AI sector but faces competition from Anthropic in the rapidly growing market. According to recent analysis, the AI sector has absorbed $242 billion in venture funding in Q1 2026 alone, representing 80% of all global venture capital deployed during that quarter.
