These companies were tasked with creating foundational systems for language, voice, and enterprise AI applications at scale, with models expected to be open source to enable other startups to develop India-focused applications. Sarvam AI is building India-centric language and vision models, claiming that in side-by-side tests against global systems, its outputs feel more culturally aware, steadier in Indian languages, and sharper on local facts. As reported by India Today, the company is developing a sovereign foundation model capable of tasks such as text generation, translation and conversational interfaces across Indian languages. Soket AI Labs has developed the Eka language stack with support for 45+ languages, pushing research to make Hindi and regional-language coding and reasoning more workable — a direct challenge to the English-first bias in most coding models. Gnani AI is building a voice-to-voice foundation model for real-time speech interactions across dialects and accents, aimed at telecom, enterprise and public-service use cases.
Gan AI is focused on the distribution game, developing personalised voice and media systems, synthetic speech, and tools that can push multilingual content at scale. According to India Today, the promise is simple: if language is the barrier, voice and personalisation are the shortcut — especially for enterprises trying to reach users beyond English and metro audiences. Gnani AI is developing a voice-first foundation model focused on multilingual speech processing and real-time voice interactions, designed for low-latency, speech-to-speech communication applications in customer support, education, accessibility and public-facing systems. Gan AI is building a multilingual model with advanced text-to-speech capabilities, aiming to deliver voice synthesis quality comparable to leading global systems for audiobooks, voice assistants and media localisation in Indian languages.
BharatGen, a consortium led by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, is presenting Param-2, a large multilingual model for Indic language applications. As reported by India Today, Tech Mahindra's Maker's Lab is set to introduce an education-focused AI tutor designed to teach physics to students in classes 6–12 through interactive, multilingual learning systems. The summit also drew significant international participation, with heads of government including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron attending, alongside global tech executives such as Sundar Pichai (CEO, Google/Alphabet), Sam Altman (CEO, OpenAI), and Demis Hassabis (CEO, DeepMind). According to ANI, tech leaders debated on open-source AI and its role in sovereignty, with Calista Redmond, VP Sovereign AI at Nvidia noting that nations are increasingly looking at their overarching AI story and not just one component.
Zenteiq is developing a multimodal foundation model named BrahmAI, focused on engineering intelligence and scientific computing to support technical simulations, optimisation problems and scientific research. According to India Today, Intellihealth (NeuroDX) is developing an AI model for EEG signal analysis focusing on early detection of neurological conditions and advancing research in affordable brain–computer interfaces. Shodh AI is working on an AI system to support material discovery by integrating artificial intelligence into laboratory workflows, assisting in identifying new materials including advanced alloys and battery components. The government of India has also announced sovereign AI initiatives promoting workforce development, sustainable computing and private-sector investment in domestic compute capacity.
