Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has purchased a land parcel worth around ₹3.31 crore in Ayodhya, becoming the latest high-profile investor to place a bet on the city's rapidly expanding spiritual economy. According to reports from Business Standard, the actor has acquired a 2,134 sq ft plot at 'The Sarayu,' a premium 75-acre plotted development by The House of Abhinandan Lodha on the banks of the Sarayu river. Speaking about his purchase, Kapoor described the investment as a spiritual 'call' in light of the cultural essence of Ayodhya, emphasizing Ayodhya's cultural and historical significance as key factors in his decision to invest in the city. The actor also praised the developer for a 'seamless and transparent' digital acquisition process, highlighting the efficiency of the transaction. Kapoor reportedly described the moment emotionally, saying 'Ayodhya has chosen me,' a statement that has quickly gone viral across social media platforms. As per Instagram, Kapoor stated his belief that Ayodhya chose him, seeing the land as a legacy for his family. Kapoor is set to star as Lord Ram in the upcoming big-budget spectacle 'Ramayana,' adding an extra layer of spiritual significance to his investment.
The purchase highlights a much bigger trend unfolding in Ayodhya: the transformation of the temple town into one of India's hottest real estate and tourism markets. As reported by Business Standard, Ayodhya recorded nearly 23 crore visitors between January and June 2025 alone, compared to around 5.75 crore annual visitors before the temple construction phase. Visitor numbers are projected to approach 50 crore by the end of 2025, reflecting the scale of tourism growth the city is experiencing. According to government estimates, Ayodhya crossed 100 million visitors within the first quarter of 2025. The city has witnessed significant infrastructure and tourism-led development in recent years, particularly following large-scale government projects in roads, railways, airport connectivity and civic infrastructure. The company reports that investments worth over ₹85,000 crore have been announced across sectors in Ayodhya.
The 75-acre Sarayu Project by The House of Abhinandan Lodha is Ayodhya's first-of-its-kind branded plotted development, bringing together spiritual legacy and global luxury. According to Business Standard, the project is being positioned as a luxury spiritual-lifestyle destination and includes a Leela-managed vegetarian luxury hotel, clubhouse and more than 35 curated lifestyle amenities. The development is anchored by a proposed five-acre fully vegetarian luxury hotel to be operated by The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, complemented by modern lifestyle amenities and seamless connectivity. The hotel itself is expected to be vegetarian-only, aligning with the spiritual sanctity of the location. Abhinandan Lodha, Chairman of The House of Abhinandan Lodha, said Ayodhya stands at the centre of India's 'cultural and spiritual resurgence'. He noted that with The Sarayu, they are creating a benchmark for spiritually rooted, world-class land developments, with Kapoor's investment reflecting growing conviction among discerning buyers who are looking at Ayodhya not just emotionally, but also as a strategic, future-forward destination.
Ranbir Kapoor's purchase follows recent high-value investments in Ayodhya by prominent individuals. As reported by Business Standard, Amitabh Bachchan had acquired a 2.67-acre land parcel worth ₹35 crore from The House of Abhinandan Lodha in Ayodhya in March this year, marking his third investment in the historic city. In May 2025, Bachchan purchased a 25,000 sq ft plot adjacent to The Sarayu for nearly ₹40 crore. Earlier, in 2024, he bought a 10,000 sq ft plot at The Sarayu for ₹14.5 crore. The actor's investment represents a continuation of this trend of high-profile celebrity investments in Ayodhya's spiritual economy. Actress Kriti Sanon has also bought property in the same prestigious Sarayu development, blending her love for luxury with Ayodhya's spiritual appeal. Young superstar Kartik Aaryan has purchased a plot in 'The Sarayu,' making him one of the latest celebrities to invest in this high-potential riverside project.
