According to reports from Upstox, UTI and SBI schemes generated the strongest SIP outcomes over three years, with both funds turning a ₹1.8 lakh investment into more than ₹2.13 lakh. The comparison analyzed five Nifty Next 50 index funds with a ₹5000 monthly SIP investment, showing how different schemes delivered varying results despite tracking the same benchmark. As reported by Upstox, all five schemes track the Nifty Next 50 TRI benchmark, with their top holdings remaining broadly similar including stocks such as Vedanta, Tata Motors, TVS Motor, Divi's Laboratories and Hindustan Aeronautics.
As reported by Upstox, the performance data as of 6 May 2026 shows ICICI Prudential Nifty Next 50 Index Fund remains the largest scheme with assets under management (AUM) of more than ₹7,600 crore. The fund, managed by Nishit Patel and launched in 2010, delivered 12.61% returns in 1 year and 21.29% over 3 years. UTI Nifty Next 50 Index Fund emerged as the second-largest with ₹6,560.80 crore AUM and 12.61% 1-year and 21.35% 3-year returns. The Motilal Oswal scheme had the smallest AUM at around ₹381 crore with 12.25% 1-year and 21.02% 3-year returns.
Indian IT stocks demonstrated strong performance on May 8, 2026, with the Nifty IT index rising to an intraday high of 29,311.90 despite broader market weakness. Coforge emerged as the top gainer, jumping 3.64% to ₹1,332.10 from its previous close of ₹1,285.30, followed by Persistent Systems rising 1.67% to ₹5,067.00. LTIMindtree gained 1.24% to ₹4,302.80, while Tech Mahindra and HCL Technologies posted gains of 1.07% and 0.77% respectively. The rally was driven by a strengthening US dollar index at 98.235 after renewed US-Iran tensions sparked fresh risk aversion, with US crude futures trading up to 3% higher amid geopolitical concerns.
According to Upstox analysis, the UTI fund's top holdings showed slight deviations compared to peers, with higher allocations to Adani Power, Varun Beverages and Hindustan Aeronautics. The report notes that while a difference of just 0.5%-1% in annual returns may not appear significant initially, this extra return compounds over years of long SIP investing and can eventually add several lakhs to the final corpus. As reported by Upstox, several Nifty Next 50 index funds were launched only in recent years, with HDFC's scheme launched in November 2021, SBI's fund in May 2021, and Motilal Oswal's scheme in December 2019.
As reported by Upstox, Nifty Next 50 index funds have gained traction among retail investors seeking exposure beyond the traditional Nifty 50 universe. The index includes emerging large-cap companies that could potentially become future Nifty 50 constituents. The data sourced from the ACE MF website shows that since inception returns range from 11.93% to 15.18%, with the UTI fund showing 12.67% since inception and ICICI Prudential at 12.29%. The comparison focuses primarily on 1-year and 3-year SIP performance since several schemes in the category are relatively new, making longer 5-year or 10-year comparisons less representative across all funds.
