According to reports from Mint, if you plan to purchase an SUV in the next 2-5 years, systematic investment plans (SIPs) can help build adequate corpus. As of June 2026, average SUV prices in India range between ₹6 lakh for basic models to ₹24 lakh for luxury brands, with a mid-point estimate of ₹14 lakh. The analysis considers current prices despite potential fluctuations due to rising input costs, geopolitical pressures, taxes, and inflationary factors.
As reported by Mint, the investment timeline shows significant variation in required monthly contributions. For a two-year investment period, investors would need to contribute ₹53,000 monthly to build a corpus of ₹14.43 lakh with a 12% rate of return. A three-year investment requires ₹33,000 monthly for a corpus of ₹14.35 lakh. The most achievable option is a four-year investment requiring ₹24,000 monthly for a corpus of ₹14.84 lakh. The most realistic approach is a five-year investment requiring ₹18,000 monthly for the same corpus of ₹14.84 lakh.
According to Mint, SIPs offer several advantages for building wealth through mutual funds. The system allows investors to invest fixed amounts monthly rather than lump sums, starting from as little as ₹100 to ₹1,000 depending on comfort levels. SIPs provide rupee cost averaging benefits when units are purchased at different price points, potentially improving profitability. Edelweiss MF's Radhika Gupta advises Gen Z investors to view SIPs as a savings discipline tool, suggesting automation of SIPs, recurring deposits, or fixed deposits before money is even received.
Recent analysis from NDTV Profit reveals the power of extended SIP investment periods for building substantial wealth. For a 5-year SIP plan, investors need to contribute ₹1,22,000 monthly at 12% return to build a ₹1 crore corpus with a total investment of ₹73.2 lakh. A 10-year SIP requires ₹44,000 monthly investment for similar wealth creation, with total investment of ₹52.8 lakh. Most significantly, a 20-year SIP plan requires only ₹10,100 monthly investment, building the same ₹1 crore corpus with total investment of just ₹24.24 lakh. This demonstrates how longer investment horizons significantly reduce required monthly contributions while leveraging the power of compounding.
