From April 1, 2026, new PAN forms have been introduced under the Income-tax Rules, 2026. For individual PAN holders, PAN CR-01 is the prescribed form for changes or corrections in PAN data. According to reports from PAN Card Update, existing PAN holders can apply for changes or corrections in their PAN data through the online PAN services provided by authorised service providers such as Protean eGov and UTIITSL. The Income Tax Department says PAN correction can also be submitted through offline mode.
To apply online, applicants must visit the PAN service portal of Protean eGov or UTIITSL and select the option for Change/Correction in PAN Data. As reported by PAN Card Update, applicants need to enter their PAN and other required details, select the relevant fields for which a correction is required, enter the updated information carefully, and submit the required supporting documents wherever applicable. The process involves paying the applicable fee shown during the application process and submitting the application with acknowledgement details for future reference.
The PAN correction process allows applicants to update applicable personal and contact details. According to PAN Card Update, for a name correction, applicants must select the applicable name field and provide the details exactly as required, with supporting documents required depending on the nature of the change. For an address update, applicants provide the complete and correct address in the applicable section, with the address entered supported by required documents wherever applicable. For a mobile number update, applicants provide the current mobile number and other required contact details in the relevant section, ensuring contact information is entered correctly for communication purposes.
The applicable fee depends on the type of PAN service, application mode, communication address and whether a physical PAN card is required. As reported by PAN Card Update, applicants should check the fee displayed on the official Protean or UTIITSL portal at the time of submitting the correction request rather than relying on old fixed fees. The ₹50 fee for an Indian address and ₹959 for a foreign address mentioned in some older PAN articles relates to PAN card reprint when no change in PAN data is required through Protean's specific reprint facility.
The processing and delivery time can vary depending on application, document verification and other processing requirements. According to PAN Card Update, applicants should not assume a fixed delivery period such as 15 or 20 working days. After submitting the correction request, applicants should keep the acknowledgement or application details safely to track the PAN application status through relevant PAN service providers. If the correction request is successfully processed, a new PAN card bearing the same PAN number with updated details can be issued.
