A viral social media exchange between Rahul Gandhi and his investment advisor Muthukrishnan Dhandapani has sparked widespread discussion about maintaining professionalism despite political differences. In a detailed post on X, Dhandapani revealed their decade-long relationship, stating he wanted to highlight 'how perception is different from reality' and clarify that his comments were not meant to support any political party or leader. The exchange began when Dhandapani posted about managing Gandhi's mutual fund investments since 2013, with Gandhi responding humorously: 'Muthu ji, your political views are your own, but please do speed up the returns on my investments.' Dhandapani later replied that he was 'pleasantly surprised' by Gandhi's response, emphasizing their professional relationship despite their different political views.
Despite his political leanings, Dhandapani emphasized that Gandhi has always separated politics from professionalism throughout their relationship. As reported by PTI, Dhandapani revealed that he was a staunch BJP supporter from 2014 to 2024 and openly vocal about his political views on social media. He stated that Gandhi and his office staff never brought up his political beliefs during their professional interactions, with Dhandapani noting that mainstream media and political IT cells can make anyone appear inhuman. The relationship began in 2013 when a client working with Gandhi recommended Dhandapani for managing his mutual fund investments. Dhandapani noted that despite being an outspoken supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP from 2014 to 2024, his political views never affected their professional relationship.
Dhandapani has maintained strict professional boundaries throughout his relationship with Gandhi, never seeking personal favors or benefits. According to his latest social media posts, 'I've interacted with Rahul a lot of times in the last 14 years. I've never sought anything, even a smallest benefit from him. I'll stick to professional discussion. Then we'll sometimes chat about general things for a while.' He added that if someone wants to be respected and treated as equal, they should not expect anything from anyone, especially with powerful people. Dhandapani has advised other mutual fund distributors dealing with VIP clients to 'stick to the professional process and interact nicely, be it Rahul Gandhi or any other VIP client.' The advisor noted that 'In every single conversation I've with Rahul, he addresses me with respect and never behaved in any haughty manner' and that despite knowing his BJP support, Gandhi took his input for choosing a key professional. As reported by PTI, Dhandapani emphasized that 'Never once Rahul or his office staff brought that subject to me. I believe my tweets are regularly seen by his staff. They clearly differentiate between my professional service and political beliefs.'
As reported by Times Now, Dhandapani has gained significant social media presence with over 5.8 lakh followers on X, where his finance and political insights have earned him recognition as a finfluencer. The viral exchange has quickly gained traction online, with the post achieving 2.6 million views and generating numerous amused comments. Dhandapani has maintained an active presence on the platform, where he revealed that Gandhi responded to his post with a request to speed up returns on his investments. Dhandapani wrote that 'This post may lead to Rahul terminating our professional relationship. That's okay. Everything should end one day,' adding that mainstream media and political IT cells often create distorted perceptions about public figures. He concluded by stating 'I do not know Rahul Gandhi as a politician. Based on last 14 years interaction, all I can say is he respects professionals a lot and is a nice human being to interact with' and urged followers not to believe media or IT cells for any party.
