Pensioners aged 80 and above can now submit their annual life certificate through the government's Jeevan Pramaan facility, with the submission window opening on October 1, 2026. Other pensioners can submit their certificates from November 1, 2026, with the deadline set for November 30, 2026. According to reports from Mint, this electronic submission process eliminates the need for physical visits to bank branches, particularly benefiting elderly pensioners and those with mobility challenges. For SBI pensioners specifically, those aged 80 years and above can submit their life certificates in October 2026, while other pensioners can submit from November 1 to November 30 to continue receiving their pensions. Pensioners should ensure that their certificates are generated and accepted within the applicable submission window to avoid potential delays in pension payments.
SBI pensioners can complete digital submissions at any SBI branch using the Jeevan Pramaan facility. As reported by Mint, pensioners should provide Aadhaar number, mobile number, Pension Payment Order (PPO) and account number, then give biometrics through fingerprint authentication. When successful, Jeevan Pramaan generates a Digital Life Certificate (DLC) with a unique acknowledgement number known as the Pramaan ID. Alternatively, pensioners can use the UMANG app to generate their Digital Life Certificate through face authentication, following a similar process that includes downloading AadhaarFaceRD service, completing operator authentication, entering pension details, capturing the pensioner's face using the smartphone's front camera, and submitting the information to generate the Pramaan ID. The UMANG app requires pensioners to click on 'Generate Life Certificate', download the Aadhaar Face RD service, fill in PPO number, pension details and authenticate using Aadhaar, complete face authentication, and send the request to the disbursal authority.
For SBI pensioners preferring digital submission, the process involves downloading the Jeevan Pramaan application and AadhaarFaceRD application from relevant app stores. According to the latest SBI guidelines, pensioners should open the Jeevan Pramaan application and navigate to the Operator Authentication screen, where they enter Aadhaar number, mobile number and email address, submit the information and enter the OTP received for verification. After completing operator authentication, pensioners enter their pensioner name as recorded in official records, select the required checkbox, allow camera access and follow on-screen instructions to scan their face. The application then opens the Pensioner Authentication screen where pensioners enter PPO number, pension type, pension-sanctioning authority, pension-disbursing agency and bank account details accurately, checking information against pension records before submission. Once successful, the Digital Life Certificate is generated with the Pramaan ID displayed on screen, which pensioners should keep for future reference.
For pensioners unable to use smartphone face authentication, multiple alternative methods are available. According to Mint, these include biometric authentication using authorized fingerprint or iris-scanning facilities, doorstep banking through home visits arranged by banks, and physical submission at relevant bank branches. Pensioners should contact their bank or pension-disbursing agency to verify the availability of these options and any applicable charges. Additionally, pensioners can visit Common Service Centres (CSCs) or designated bank or government offices to generate their Digital Life Certificate, though these may charge a small fee. Pensioners can find nearby centres using the centre locator on jeevanpramaan.gov.in/locater. For SBI pensioners specifically, those opting for physical method can submit their life certificate in the prescribed format available on the SBI website, or visit the nearest CSC or Aadhaar Seva Kendra to provide details such as Aadhaar number, mobile number, Pension Payment Order (PPO) number, account number and the name of pension sanctioning authority, then provide biometrics through fingerprint authentication. According to SBI guidelines, pensioners who are re-employed and family pensioners who have remarried must submit their Life Certificate only in physical format.
Successful face authentication does not guarantee immediate acceptance by pension authorities. As reported by Mint, pensioners must visit the official Jeevan Pramaan portal at jeevanpramaan.gov.in to access their Digital Life Certificate using the Pramaan ID. If the certificate is rejected or its status remains unclear, pensioners should contact their pension-disbursing authority to resolve the issue. Checking certificate acceptance status is crucial to prevent avoidable delays in pension payments. Pensioners should not assume that successful authentication alone confirms acceptance, as generating a Digital Life Certificate does not necessarily mean the pension-disbursing agency has completed its verification process. The Jeevan Pramaan system uses the Aadhaar platform for biometric authentication of the pensioner, with successful authentication generating the Digital Life Certificate (DLC) which gets stored in the life certificate repository. Pension Disbursing Agencies (PDAs) can access the certificate online for verification.
