India's pre-owned luxury market has reached significant scale, with ₹670.26 million in 2025 and projected 7.09% CAGR growth through 2031, according to Karan Chechi, CEO & founder of TechSci Research. The market is driven primarily by handbags, watches, jewellery and premium accessories, where brand recognition, resale value and gifting potential are all high. As reported by Business Standard, what was once viewed as a compromise has evolved into a sophisticated segment, with younger buyers embracing authenticated pre-owned products for value, rarity and sustainability.
Among luxury categories, handbags continue to dominate resale demand, with iconic Louis Vuitton canvas bags retailing for around ₹1.5 lakh but available in resale markets for ₹60,000-₹65,000, making them attractive entry points for first-time luxury buyers. According to Punit Anand, Founder of The LuxuryPop, a bag that originally retailed for ₹50,000-₹60,000 a decade ago may now command a market value of around ₹1.7 lakh if demand has significantly increased. Most platforms operate on a consignment model where sellers receive previously agreed-upon shares of final sale prices.
Major platforms including Luxepolis, The Second Movement, Tata CLiQ Luxury, Confidential Couture and The LuxuryPop are helping formalise India's luxury resale ecosystem. Tata CLiQ Luxury reported nearly 2x growth in GMV for pre-owned crossbody bags, while non-metro markets accounted for up to 45% of sales in its timepieces category. ChronoSeconds saw fourfold sales growth over the past year, Luxepolis reported 30% increase in sales, and Confidential Couture recorded 60% year-on-year growth. As reported by Business Standard, luxury watches are emerging as one of the fastest-growing categories, with the Indian pre-owned luxury watch market expected to nearly double by 2030.
Resale platforms have implemented rigorous quality standards, with every item undergoing detailed scrutiny before listing. According to Punit Anand, The LuxuryPop accepts only bags with perfect hardware function, no worn corners, peeling or moisture-damaged leather, and footwear must be in excellent condition with recent purchase history. Confidential Couture follows a curated model with multiple layers of verification to combat counterfeit luxury. The platform's average transaction value is around ₹70,000, while its most expensive sale has touched ₹38 lakh, with demand for sought-after pieces often exceeding supply.
The demand for pre-owned luxury is expanding demographically and geographically, driven primarily by millennials and Gen Z, aspirational consumers in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, and buyers viewing luxury purchases as both emotionally rewarding and value-retentive. As reported by Business Standard, younger consumers are comfortable with digital-first shopping and authenticated resale platforms, redefining luxury ownership. Affluent consumers in smaller cities contribute significantly to demand, particularly for luxury watches and handbags where access to authorised boutiques may be limited. The shift mirrors a broader movement towards the circular luxury economy, where luxury assets are increasingly being authenticated and sold or traded to extend both lifespan and value.
