This shift comes as Indian students explore alternatives to traditional US education due to changing visa restrictions, longer processing times, increased application scrutiny, and stricter immigration policies that have made the US less attractive for international students.
As reported by Mint, most public universities in Germany charge either low or no tuition fees, with students typically required to pay only a nominal semester fee. This compares favorably to US universities that charge ₹20-40 lakh per year in tuition fees. Additionally, German universities offer various scholarship programs including the DAAD scholarship, Deutschlandstipendium, and government-funded programs that can significantly reduce education costs. Monthly living expenses in Germany range between ₹60,000-90,000 depending on location and accommodation type.
According to Mint, Germany offers abundant job opportunities due to its status as Europe's largest economy and home to major companies like BMW, Adidas, SAP, Siemens, and Allianz. International students can work for up to 140 full days or 280 half days per year while studying, providing practical experience and income to cover living costs. After course completion, students can apply for an 18-month working visa and skilled graduates can obtain permanent residency in just two years.
