Employees enrolled with the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) are automatically covered under the Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) scheme. In the unfortunate death of a PF subscriber, the nominee receives a minimum of ₹2.5 lakh and up to ₹7 lakh, based on the employee's salary and EPF balance. According to reports from Zee News, this coverage provides substantial financial protection for families of deceased EPFO subscribers.
The EPFO has introduced several online facilities to eliminate the need for subscribers to visit the regulatory body's office for minor updates. Filing of e-nomination provides three major benefits: online claim settlement upon death of the PF subscriber, online payment of PF, pension and insurance up to ₹7 lakh paid to eligible nominees, and paperless and speedy claim settlement process. As reported by Zee News, this digital approach streamlines the entire process for families during difficult times.
Subscribers can file their EPFO e-nomination through the official website at epfindia.gov.in. According to the detailed process outlined by Zee News, users should navigate to the 'Employees' section under Services, then click on 'Member UAN/Online Service' and log in using their UAN and password. From the 'Manage Tab', they can access 'E-Nomination' and make necessary changes, followed by clicking 'Save EPF Nomination' and verifying details via OTP through the 'E-sign' option.
