EPF members can now use their Aadhaar or Aadhaar-generated Virtual ID (VID) to successfully add nominees and complete the e-sign process for their provident fund account. According to reports from Mint, members can generate the 16-digit VID by visiting the UIDAI website at uidai.gov.in and selecting the 'Virtual ID (VID) Generator' option under Aadhaar Services. The process requires entering the 12-digit Aadhaar number, completing the displayed Captcha, and clicking 'Send OTP' to receive the verification code on their registered mobile number. If a new VID is generated, any previously generated VID becomes invalid, ensuring security in the nomination process.
For online nominations, only Aadhaar-verified Universal Account Number (UAN) holders can access this facility through the EPFO portal. As reported by Mint, subscribers must log in to the EPFO member portal and provide detailed nominee information including Aadhaar number, name, gender, date of birth, relationship, address, and photograph not exceeding 100KB. Bank account details are optional, while guardian details are mandatory if the nominee is a minor. The process requires completing the e-sign using either Aadhaar number or the generated Virtual ID, with an OTP sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile number for authentication. Members who prefer offline processing can submit Form No. 2 to EPFO to capture family and nomination details for EPF, EPS, and EDLI schemes.
According to Mint reports, the online nomination process begins with Step 1: Logging into the EPFO Member e-Sewa portal using UAN, password, and captcha code. Step 2: Opening the e-Nomination section involves clicking 'Manage' and then 'E-Nomination' from the top menu. Step 3: Verifying profile information displays member details including name, date of birth, father's name, and Aadhaar details, requiring careful review before proceeding. Step 4: Declaring family details asks whether the member has family as defined under EPF rules, with most members answering 'Yes' to add spouse, children, and dependent parents as nominees. Step 5: Adding nominee information requires entering details such as nominee name, date of birth, gender, relationship, marital status, address, and photograph, with guardian details mandatory for minors. Step 6: Allocating shares among nominees allows members to specify percentage distribution for multiple beneficiaries, with the total share allocation must equal 100% when multiple nominees are added. The critical e-Sign step requires selecting Aadhaar authentication, entering Aadhaar number or Virtual ID, and completing OTP verification to electronically sign and submit the nomination.
According to Mint reports, spouse and children are defined as family for the provident fund, making married subscribers mandatory to add their spouse as nominee even if they do not wish to nominate under pension fund. Unmarried members without spouse or children may nominate any person regardless of relationship. Female subscribers can nominate spouse, children (married or unmarried), dependent parents, dependent parents-in-law, and the widow and children of a deceased son. Male subscribers can nominate spouse, children (married and unmarried), dependent parents, and the widow and children of a deceased son. Members can nominate one or more beneficiaries, but the percentage share assigned to all nominees must collectively equal 100% when multiple nominees are added. EPFO advises members to review and update nomination details whenever there is a change in family circumstances, such as marriage, childbirth, or death of existing nominees, to ensure correct distribution of EPF, EPS, and EDLI benefits.
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is currently providing 8.25% interest this quarter for EPF and voluntary provident fund (VPF) contributions by salaried citizens. As reported by Mint, members should update nomination details as changes occur due to marital status, childbirth, or death of nominated persons to ensure correct family dues receipt. The process involves filling form No. 2 for offline nominations or completing the online e-sign process for updated details. EPFO advises members to update nominations whenever there is a change in family circumstances, including marital status changes, childbirth, or death of nominated persons to ensure that EPF, EPS and EDLI benefits are transferred smoothly to the rightful beneficiaries without complications. With EPF balances growing over time, maintaining accurate nomination details has become an important part of retirement planning for millions of salaried employees.
