Canara Bank has implemented significant changes to its ATM charges effective September 1, 2026. The bank has reduced the free ATM transaction limit from six to five per month for regular savings account holders, while increasing the charge for cash withdrawals beyond the free limit from ₹20 plus GST to ₹23 plus GST. According to reports from Business Standard, the revised charges also include an increase in the fee for ATM transactions declined due to insufficient funds from ₹17 plus GST to ₹23 plus GST. However, senior citizens continue to receive eight free transactions per month without any changes.
The five-transaction limit covers both financial and non-financial transactions at Canara Bank ATMs and cash recyclers, as reported by Business Standard. The charge for non-financial transactions beyond the free limit remains at ₹5 plus GST, while failed transactions due to insufficient funds now cost ₹23 plus GST when the applicable free transaction limit has been crossed. The bank has also reduced the charge for Green PIN regeneration from ₹23 plus GST to ₹5 plus GST for eligible card variants including Classic, Standard, Platinum, Business, Select and World cards. The revised charges apply to transactions at Canara Bank ATMs as well as other bank ATMs, according to the bank's updated service-charge schedule.
The changes affect both regular customers and frequent ATM users differently. As reported by Business Standard, customers who frequently rely on ATMs for cash will pay ₹3 more per transaction for subsequent chargeable withdrawals. The revised charges make it important for customers to check account balances before making withdrawals and consider using mobile or internet banking for routine non-financial services. The bank advises customers to keep track of ATM transactions during each calendar month and avoid making separate cash withdrawals when one larger withdrawal can meet their needs.
For Canara Bank debit card holders, the free transaction rules for other-bank ATMs remain unchanged. According to Business Standard, customers get three free transactions per month at other-bank ATMs in metro locations and five free transactions in non-metro locations, subject to applicable rules. After the free limit is exhausted, a financial transaction, including cash withdrawal, will attract a charge of ₹23 plus GST, while non-financial transactions beyond the limit will cost ₹11 plus GST. This means the reduction in Canara Bank's own ATM free limit should not be interpreted as a blanket five-transaction limit for every ATM transaction.
