According to reports from Mint, a 30-year-old earning ₹1.5 lakh per month in Mumbai approached ChatGPT for early retirement advice. The AI tool recommended building a life around a 60% investment rate, emphasizing that the biggest early-retirement lever is not returns but the savings rate. ChatGPT advised investing ₹90,000 monthly without exception, with the remaining ₹60,000 serving as a hard monthly living cap for essential expenses.
As reported by Mint, the AI recommended allocating ₹75,000 monthly to equity index funds and flexi-cap mutual funds through direct plans. ChatGPT specifically advised using direct plans over regular plans, noting that SEBI research shows lower expense direct plans can materially improve long-term compounding. The remaining ₹15,000 should be allocated to debt instruments or emergency funds through liquid funds, short-duration funds, or fixed deposits. The plan includes investing at least 70% of every bonus and salary hike immediately, with ChatGPT stating this matters more than the current SIP amount itself.
According to the report, Mumbai's high cost of living was identified as the biggest threat to this retirement plan. ChatGPT highlighted that the Lucknow relocation plan provides a lower-cost retirement base that stretches the corpus much further into the future. The AI advised planning retirement around the question of whether the portfolio can pay for a Lucknow life without requiring work again, with the target corpus potentially reaching ₹4-5 crore depending on lifestyle needs.
As reported by Mint, investing ₹90,000 monthly for 15 years at a modest 10% annual return builds approximately ₹3.8 crore. ChatGPT emphasized that increasing SIPs with every salary hike pushes this number significantly higher over time. The AI concluded that retiring by 45 is not about finding clever investment strategies but avoiding the full ₹1.5 lakh lifestyle trap entirely and consistently. The report states that becoming 'boring with money for 10 years' is the key to achieving early financial freedom.
