A 28-year-old woman has claimed on Reddit that she has accumulated a net worth of around ₹2 crore before turning 30 years of age. According to her Reddit post, she currently earns approximately ₹4 lakh per month as a senior software engineer and her husband earns close to ₹3 lakh monthly. The couple has no outstanding EMIs and estimates their monthly expenses between ₹50,000 and ₹1 lakh. As reported by The Times of India, her investments include ₹75 lakh in mutual funds, ₹35 lakh in gold, ₹35 lakh in company stocks, ₹20 lakh in fixed deposits, ₹13 lakh in EPF, ₹10 lakh in NPS, ₹7 lakh lent to others, ₹4 lakh in savings accounts, ₹1 lakh in Sovereign Gold Bonds and RBI Bonds.
The woman explained her approach to building the ₹2 crore corpus through careful spending habits from the beginning, starting SIPs as soon as she received her first salary, and investing consistently without expensive habits or much interest in spending. According to The Times of India, the Covid period played a significant role in her savings ability as she spent three years in her hometown during the pandemic, keeping expenses very low. She started her career outside large technology companies, switched jobs every two to three years, and benefited from strong compensation during the Covid period. The couple currently has no children but plans to have one in the next year or two.
The woman stated that both partners are finding it stressful to manage work and household responsibilities simultaneously. As reported by The Times of India, she enjoys managing the household and is considering leaving her job to shift to a single-income household supported by her husband's salary. She wants enough time to cook her own food, rest, pursue fitness and health, and have leisure time. With both partners working, their days have become a constant rush between work, commuting and household responsibilities.
The couple is considering the possibility of AI affecting jobs and wants to be prepared for major uncertainties. According to The Times of India, while quitting looks possible in an optimistic scenario, they are unsure about how the decision would work out under a more pessimistic scenario. The woman invited opinions on whether they are in good shape to shift to a single-income household, asking whether they should be well prepared for major events like AI taking over jobs or other uncertain events.
The post triggered a divided response on Reddit, with some questioning why someone with a ₹2 crore net worth and ₹4 lakh monthly income needed financial advice. As reported by The Times of India, others took the question more seriously and suggested considering the loss of income before leaving a well-paying career. Several commenters recommended a middle path instead of quitting altogether, suggesting moving to a less stressful job or accepting lower salary, hiring domestic help, or making existing jobs easier to manage. The woman explained that the problem was not simply poor work-life balance but the need for more time for personal activities and household management.
