SBI Pension Funds has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing ₹6 lakh crore in Assets Under Management (AUM), as announced on Monday. According to reports from The Hindu BusinessLine, the fund manager now serves over 1.85 crore subscribers across government, corporate and retail segments. The company has established itself as the largest pension fund management company in India by AUM, holding over 34 per cent market share in India's pension fund industry. Managing Director and CEO Pranay Ranjan Dwivedi commented on the milestone, stating that crossing ₹6 lakh crore in assets under management is a significant achievement that reflects the trust of more than 1.85 crore subscribers who have entrusted the company with securing their retirement.
The company's AUM has demonstrated exceptional growth, expanding at a compounded annual rate of nearly 36 per cent over the last 15 years. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, SBI Pension Funds crossed ₹1 lakh crore in AUM in 2018, and reaching six times that figure reflects both the expanding base of retirement savers and increased adoption of the National Pension System (NPS) as a structured savings vehicle. The company's AUM stood at approximately ₹6.04 lakh crore as of June 30, 2026. Dwivedi emphasized that the company's endeavour has been to manage these savings with discipline, prudence and a long-term investment philosophy, while remaining committed to strengthening investment capabilities and upholding the highest standards of governance.
Established in December 2007 and operational since April 2008, SBI Pension Funds was among the first pension fund managers appointed by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). According to The Hindu BusinessLine, the company manages pension funds across Central Government, State Government, Corporate and Private Sector NPS, as well as the Atal Pension Yojana (APY). The company's growth has been underpinned by sustained subscriber trust over the years, with each milestone reflecting the increasing adoption of retirement planning and confidence placed in SBI Pension Funds by millions of subscribers. Dwivedi noted that as India's retirement landscape continues to evolve, the company remains committed to expanding retirement awareness so that more Indians can prepare for a financially secure future.
The National Pension System has grown in prominence as a long-term financial security instrument for Indian workers, offering a regulated, portable and transparent framework for retirement savings. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, with retirement awareness still at a relatively early stage in India, SBI Pension Funds has indicated plans to expand outreach alongside strengthening its investment and governance capabilities. The fund manager's scale reflects the growing adoption of structured retirement planning in the Indian market, with the achievement marking an important milestone not just for SBI Pension Funds, but for India's evolving retirement ecosystem. The National Pension System has emerged as a key pillar of long-term financial security, enabling millions of Indians to build retirement savings through a regulated, transparent and portable framework.
