SBI Mutual Fund, India's largest fund house, has launched 'Aarambh', an assisted digital onboarding service designed specifically for first-time investors. According to reports from The Hindu BusinessLine, the service enables SBI branch officials, authorized representatives, SBI MF Relationship Managers, or Mutual Fund Distribution Partners to support prospective investors throughout the entire onboarding process, from their first conversation to completing their first investment in a single digital session. As per Moneycontrol, the service was officially launched on September 10, 2026, and is designed to make investors investment-ready within a few minutes through a completely paperless process. The platform, meaning 'a beginning', has been built on a foundational insight that many new investors need guidance and a simple, seamless onboarding experience to become investment-ready.
The platform introduces one of the earliest Aadhaar-based biometric eKYC and eSign integrations in the mutual fund onboarding process. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, this innovation addresses traditional challenges where onboarding relied heavily on one-time passwords, which may be cumbersome for some investors or unusable when a mobile number is not linked with Aadhaar. With Aarambh, a fingerprint completes the onboarding process quickly and simply, while an OTP-based route remains available for investors who prefer it. According to Moneycontrol, the service allows investors to use fingerprint authentication instead of relying on OTPs, which can be difficult for those whose mobile number is not linked to Aadhaar. RS Srinivas Jain, Head of Strategy, Digital, IT, and IR, noted that by integrating assisted onboarding with biometric authentication, the fund house will simplify the entry point for individuals unfamiliar with existing onboarding processes, with the goal to design digital experiences that encourage participation while maintaining transparency and trust that investors expect.
According to the report, Aarambh ensures a fully digital experience for individuals who do not hold a PAN, a segment that until now could invest only through physical, paper-based processes. The service also enables first-time investors to begin with Jan Nivesh, which enables SIPs starting at ₹250 a month, providing accessible entry points for new investors. As per Moneycontrol, the platform allows first-time investors to start with Jan Nivesh, which offers SIPs starting at ₹250 a month, through the assisted digital onboarding process.
Debasish Mishra, MD & CEO of SBI Funds Management, stated that Aarambh brings together assisted guidance, secure biometric authentication and digital onboarding to make investment entry more accessible. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, he emphasized that it reflects the fund house's commitment to support first-time investors with clarity and trust as they enter the mutual fund ecosystem. According to Moneycontrol, Mishra said the initiative was aimed at addressing the complexity that can prevent individuals from making their first investment, noting that at SBI Mutual Fund, they recognise that for many individuals, the barrier to investing is not interest but the perceived complexity of taking the first step. RS Srinivas Jain, Head of Strategy, Digital, IT, and IR, added that the goal is to design digital experiences that encourage participation while maintaining transparency and trust that investors expect.
