According to reports from Mint, multi-asset allocation funds and omni fund-of-funds (FoFs) offer different investment approaches with varying returns. Quant Multi Asset Allocation Fund led the multi-asset allocation category with a 1-year return of 9.65%, while Aditya Birla Sun Life Multi-Asset Omni FoF topped the omni FoF category with 4.38%. The performance gap is evident when comparing the complete category returns, with all four omni FoFs delivering positive one-year returns, while some conventional multi-asset allocation funds posted negative returns, including Quantum Multi Asset Allocation Fund at -1.87%. As reported by Value Research, these returns were as of October 15, 2026, for direct plans.
According to Mint reports, the portfolio compositions reveal significant differences between the two fund categories. Quant Multi Asset Allocation Fund allocated 53.24% to equity, 10.44% to debt, 10.48% to commodities, and 25.84% to cash and cash equivalents. In contrast, Aditya Birla Sun Life Multi-Asset Omni FoF allocated 69.39% to equity, 12.27% to debt, 12.30% to commodities, and 6.04% to cash. The underlying holdings also differ substantially, with Quant's equity exposure including Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, and Adani Enterprises, while ABSL Omni's equity exposure includes Aditya Birla Sun Life Flexi Cap, Small Cap and Multi-Cap funds. Quant's debt holdings include Nippon GoldBeES ETF, Quant Silver ETF, and a National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development certificate of deposit maturing on January 19, 2027.
As reported by Mint, the key distinction lies in their investment methodologies. Multi-asset allocation funds build their portfolios through direct securities, commodity ETFs and other debt instruments, while omni FoFs gain exposure through underlying active and passive schemes. This fundamental difference in approach means that investors should examine actual holdings, asset allocation, and risks rather than comparing returns alone. The analysis emphasizes that while both categories offer multi-asset exposure, their underlying investment strategies and risk profiles differ significantly.
