Container Corporation of India (Concor) has successfully cleared its container backlog at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) by mid-August, according to outgoing CMD Sanjay Swarup. The state-owned logistics operator faced significant challenges with container pendency reaching 13,000 containers in the first week of June, which had around 430 rakes and contributed nearly 75% of total containers ferried at JNPA. However, through virtual stakeholder meetings, in-person visits, and sustained clearing operations, the pendency has been reduced to just 4,000 containers. As Swarup noted, "There were disruptions for a few days due to the heavy monsoon as well, but by mid-August, we will only have current pendencies. We will not have any backlogs by then."
Container Corporation's revenue remained flat year-on-year at ₹21.5 billion during Q1FY27, which was 6% below Motilal Oswal's estimate. However, the company demonstrated strong operational recovery with consolidated net profit increasing 0.6% YoY to ₹268.90 crore in Q1FY27, compared with ₹267.28 crore in Q1FY26. Revenue from operations also grew 0.28% YoY to ₹2,159.76 crore in the quarter. The company's volume performance showed resilience with total volumes increasing 9% YoY to 1.4 million TEUs, as reported by Motilal Oswal, with EXIM volumes growing 10% YoY to 0.107 million TEUs and domestic volumes rising 6% YoY to 0.33 million TEUs.
Blended realization declined by approximately 8% YoY to ₹15,333 per TEU during the quarter, according to Motilal Oswal's analysis. EXIM realization stood at ₹13,409 per TEU, down 7% YoY, while domestic realization was ₹21,460 per TEU, declining 9% YoY. These pricing pressures contributed to the company's flat revenue performance despite volume growth, though the company has managed to recover export-import volumes from the previous quarter's West Asia crisis impact.
Motilal Oswal expects revenue and EBITDA to register a CAGR of 8% and 9% respectively over FY26-28. Concor's CMD Sanjay Swarup projects 25% growth in domestic container volumes for the current financial year, supported by new Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's reforms to containerise bulk commodities. The company is also venturing into new areas with the national container carrier Bharat Container Shipping Line (BCSL), where Concor will hold a 30% stake with the remaining held by Shipping Corporation of India, port authorities, and Sagarmala Finance Corporation. Swarup indicated that the rough investment figure for BCSL is around ₹4,500 crore over 10-15 years, with the proposal currently awaiting Cabinet approval.
