MarketSmith India has issued two stock recommendations for 20 May, targeting Radico Khaitan Ltd and Kirloskar Pneumatic Co. Ltd. According to MarketSmith India's analysis, Radico Khaitan is recommended as a buy at current price of ₹3,600 with a target price of ₹4,200 in two to three months, while Kirloskar Pneumatic is suggested as a buy at ₹1,580 with a target of ₹1,820 over the same period. The recommendations come amid mixed market performance on 19 May, where Indian benchmark indices witnessed volatile trading sessions.
Indian benchmark indices ended marginally lower on 20 May after a highly volatile trading session. The BSE Sensex fell 114.19 points, or 0.15%, to close at 75,200.85, while the Nifty 50 retreated 31.95 points, or 0.14%, to settle at 23,618. The index moved within a broad range of 23,587–23,782, as investors booked profits in heavyweight banking and financial stocks following the recent rally. The late-session reversal was largely driven by macroeconomic concerns, with the Indian rupee weakening to a fresh record low of 96.53 against the US dollar, while rating agency Icra Ltd trimmed India's FY27 growth forecast amid elevated crude oil prices. Despite the weak close in benchmark indices, market breadth remained positive with 2,152 stocks rising versus 1,109 declining, indicating continued broad-based participation.
Sectoral performance showed mixed results with IT emerging as the strongest performer, gaining over 3% on renewed buying interest in large-cap technology names. The Nifty IT index surged 3.23%, while Nifty Realty also performed well, up 1.43%. However, profit booking in private banking stocks weighed on sentiment, with the Nifty Private Bank index declining 0.74%. The Nifty Bank closed at 53,409.15, down 127.85 points, or 0.24%, reflecting continued caution among market participants. Realty, PSU Banks and Pharma also ended in positive territory, helping limit deeper losses in the broader market.
From a technical perspective, the Nifty 50 has struggled to reclaim its 50-day DMA over the past 3-4 sessions, signalling a lack of strong bullish momentum. The index continues to trade below key short-term moving averages, with the RSI near 45 remaining below its signal line, indicating weakening momentum and a neutral-to-bearish bias in the near term. According to O'Neil's methodology, the Indian equity market has been downgraded to an 'Uptrend Under Pressure' from a 'Confirmed Uptrend'. The Nifty Bank faces immediate support near 53,300 with resistance around 54,000–54,850 levels. Unless Nifty Bank decisively reclaims the 54,000–54,500 zone, the broader bias is likely to remain corrective, with global uncertainty and cautious interest rate expectations keeping upside attempts capped in the near term.
