Global brokerage Nomura has retained its 'Buy' rating on Asian Paints with a target price of ₹3,250, implying an upside of around 25% from current levels. The brokerage holds a non-consensus bullish view on India's paints industry and names Asian Paints as its preferred pick in the space. According to Nomura, "The peak of competitive intensity appears behind, and it will be more rational vs disruptive going forward. We prefer Asian Paints in the paints sector." The brokerage values Asian Paints at 60x its December 2027 earnings estimate, in line with the stock's 10-year trading average.
The experts provided specific reasons for their sell recommendations. Swaraj Engines Ltd. received a 'Sell' rating due to the company having rewarded shareholders very well with strong revenue visibility and return margins, suggesting the stock run-up has already occurred. Similarly, Suryoday Small Finance Bank Ltd. was advised to be sold due to patience being tested over a long period. The experts recommended investing in good small or mid-cap private sector banks instead.
For Sammaan Capital Ltd. (CMP: ₹154.75), the experts advised 'Wait' due to Abu Dhabi's entry into the company, with potential for kitchen-sinking in subsequent quarters. Technical analyst Jatin Gedia from Teji Mandi provided specific buy recommendations for Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd. and Skipper Ltd. (India). The analysis suggests Samvardhana Motherson has positive structure with expectations of a move towards ₹147, while Skipper Ltd. is consolidating after a sharp run-up and should be bought only above ₹485.
The paint industry is heading into a double-digit growth year with FY27 expected to see significant expansion. According to Grasim, the total decorative paint industry stood at roughly ₹15,500 crore in revenues in the March quarter alone, with the organised segment continuing to gain ground at the expense of unorganised players. Nomura noted that despite price increases, April and May sales have remained as strong as March levels, supporting the positive outlook for legacy players. The brokerage expects the industry's return of pricing power to benefit established players significantly.
