Goldman Sachs has maintained its 'Neutral' rating on Nestle India shares while slightly raising its target price to ₹1,450 from the previous ₹1,425. According to latest reports, the investment bank's latest assessment comes after the company's strong Q4FY26 performance and annual report. The brokerage's positive outlook centers on Nestle India's improved free cash flow prospects and easing capital expenditure requirements, with the company now in a peak capex cycle after significant investments in previous years.
Nestle India delivered exceptional Q4FY26 results that significantly exceeded street expectations across key financial metrics. The company reported net profit of ₹1,114 crore, well above the estimated ₹926 crore, despite absorbing a one-time loss of ₹36.2 crore. Standalone revenue grew 22.6% year-on-year to ₹6,748 crore, outperforming estimates of ₹6,186 crore, while EBITDA came in at ₹1,772 crore, significantly higher than the projected ₹1,498 crore. Profitability improved with margins expanding to 26.3%, compared with expectations of 24.2%, supported by robust double-digit volume growth across all major segments.
The company's revenue mix is rapidly shifting away from milk and nutrition toward chocolates and confectionery, with milk and nutrition salience down from 46% in CY19 to 36% in FY26, while chocolates and confectionery salience increased from 13% to 19% over the same period. FY26 chocolates growth reached 33% year-on-year, aided by GST rate cut from 18% to 5% in September 2025. The confectionery business posted strong double-digit growth in both value and volume, driven by continued demand for brands like KitKat, Munch and Milkybar. The company significantly expanded its rural distribution footprint to 216,000 villages, one of the fastest expansions in the sector.
The company has demonstrated sharp improvement in operational efficiency with free cash flow improving significantly and inventory days reduced from 52 to 41. FY26 capex fell to ₹8.2 billion from cumulative ₹39 billion in FY24-25, indicating the company is in a peak capex cycle. FY27 and FY28 revenue estimates have been raised 1-2% on faster growth assumptions, with the company valued at an unchanged multiple on FY28 estimated earnings. The management's focus on reinvesting for volume growth through strategic investments has resulted in record-breaking revenue and expanding operating margins despite higher advertising spend requirements.
Despite the strong fundamentals, the stock trades at a significant premium with a P/E ratio approaching 80x, which fully prices in the company's quality and growth prospects. The valuation leaves little room for error or unforeseen headwinds, such as commodity price risks that management has flagged. For existing investors, Nestle India represents a 'growth at a high price' opportunity with a clear path for compounding value over the long term. However, new investors must weigh the company's superior quality against the demanding valuation that offers minimal margin of safety. The analyst recommends accumulating positions during market pullbacks rather than initiating full positions at current levels.
