The 30-share BSE Sensex surged 1,718.01 points to close at 81,028.02, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 493.75 points to settle at 25,030.35, reclaiming the crucial 25,000 mark. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain open for a special Muhurat Trading session on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm to mark Diwali Laxmi Pujan. This one-hour session is traditionally considered an auspicious occasion to begin investments and marks the start of the new Hindu financial year, Samvat 2083. The rally was supported by sustained foreign fund inflows and easing crude oil prices, lifting investor sentiment despite global market selloffs. According to Motilal Oswal, the Nifty50 slipped about 12% over Samvat 2022 (till 29 October 2026), weighed down by the West Asia conflict, rising crude oil prices, a rupee near ₹95 to the dollar and other factors.
As the new Samvat begins, the focus is expected to shift towards companies with sustainable earnings, strong balance sheets and consistent cash-flow generation. Avinash Agarwal, Senior Vice President and Head of Equity at Bandhan Life, said the market outlook remained constructive, but returns were likely to be moderate and selective. "Earnings growth, rather than valuation expansion, is likely to be the primary driver of market performance going forward. Given the underperformance of large caps driven by FII outflows and the strong growth in midcaps, we expect the large- and midcap segments to do well," Agarwal explained. He expects large- and midcap stocks to benefit when FIIs return, given the wider choice of industries and the investment scale available in these segments. Banking and financial services, healthcare, select industrials, infrastructure and consumption-oriented businesses remain among the key sectors to watch, subject to valuations and earnings prospects. Agarwal advised investors to view market corrections as opportunities to accumulate quality businesses rather than react to short-term sentiment, emphasizing that India's long-term growth prospects remained intact, with quality and earnings resilience central to wealth creation.
